Entertaining read, makes one realize the importance of having a community that you actively participate in. This book teaches the lesson of having good friends because if you do not, evil can take advantage of you and ultimately kill you without anyone knowing why. Additionally, this is a great "who done it" story. It keeps you wondering who the bad guy is until the very end. I tend to figure out who the perp is quickly, but you can't with this story, everyone in Billy Wiles' life could be the killer. I recommend this for thriller, suspense type reading.

Just finished this book about two weeks ago. I found the book and the plot awesome, but I was desapointed with the ending. Mr. Knootz, not one of you best, for sure..

I was a few pages in before I realised I'd read this book before. But since I couldn't immediately remember how it had ended, I read it again. This being my 2nd Koontz book in a row, I'm still waiting for him to impress me. "The Taking" annoyed me a little with its religious slant, and this "Velocity" was pretty run-of-the-mill thriller. One thing I didn't quite like was how the lead character kept referring to the murderer(s) as "the freak". It struck me as really juvenile, perhaps in part because when I was a young teen, I once wrote an entire diary entry referring to someone I didn't like only as "the freak / idiot / nincompoop". But overall, the plot was OK.

True page turner; couldn't put it down. I like some of the stories of Koontz's older stuff better, but this one really sucks you in fast.

This one was really good. Usually Koontz ends to abruptly for my tastes. I totlay didn't expect a few twists.

This was my very first Koontz read, and am glad it was. I enjoyed it very much, and it lead me to read more of his works. Excellent book!

A real page turner but as always, ending is usually never what you want it to be. I wouldn't say "don't" read it.

Oh what a murder mystery this is... If you are into books that will have you at the edge of your seat this is it. Bone chilling suspense.

It was the description from the New York Times, when this book debuted in the summer of 2005 that made me want to read it. But, I didn't want to spend $30 on a hard cover so I waited a year to buy the paperback. I really I enjoyed it. However, I thought the beginning was kind of slow; maybe it just wasn't as fast paced as I was expecting it to be. But, it definately picked up about half way through and made up for the lagging nature of the first half. Even though I've never read any other Dean Koontz novels, so I'm not completely familiar with his style of writing, I thought the ending was somewhat predictable (especially if you're keen to pick up the foreshadowing thoughout the entire novel.) All in all, it was a good read-suspenseful, intriguing, and well written.

Good solid book, not too predictable. Suspenseful and kept me on my toes. Hope the next one is just as good!

I've only read 3 other Koontz novels out of what, like over 30? But for my limited experience with the author, this is by far my favorite. The read was fast paced and I finished it in about 3 days as it certainly held my attention. Koontz could have gone a little deeper into details about the characters and why they act the way they do, but overall what was presented makes for a great story that really builds to a somewhat predictable ending.

The first of Knoontz books I ever read. Made me fall in love with his wittiness and the way he captures a persons imagination and envelopes them in the story making them feel as if they are part of the make up of the story. It's up to you to decide what part of your alter ego fits.
