This is personally my favorite book. I finished the series over the summer when I was in high school. I'm sure that book lovers have a character they can relate to, and for me it was Anne. I highly recommend this book for anyone to read. There is so much detail in it that you become engrossed in the story. It's definitely worth reading.
This is my favorite novel of all time. I've loved it since I was a little girl. I recommend the entire series.

The only problem with these books is that they get less and less interesting as they go along. I LOVE the first one, it always makes me laugh. But as Anne grows up and marries and has children, it gets less funny and more dramatic. Too bad!
I'm working my way through all the books...I just love them! Even as an adult, they have not lost any of their charm, and now I am reading them from the viewpoint of a mother. It's a different experience entirely!

These were some of the first books I read, besides of course the memorable Boxcar Children. Anne of Green Gables was my idol for the longest time-to the extent that I wanted to have red hair! haha Anywho, I highly suggest that, if you haven't already, read these books. I still oftentimes go back and reread them - something I usually don't do with books.

This is a book I read for the first time as a 10 year old child and it has been my favourite book ever since then. I keep going back to it every few years, each time with just as much expectation and it never disappoints. I've laughed and cried over the same passages, I got angry at the same meddling people and I lived through the journey with the main heroin.

It is such an amazing story, so cleverly and intelligently written. The portrayal of childhood and fun that comes with it, and slow motion of growing up is gripping and enticing. And how many of us can identify with at least some if not many of the elements in the story. I love it, love it, love it.

I first read this when I was about ten, and was intensely relieved to find Anne just as strange a child as I was. I remember pointing out to my mom that I was not the only one not getting her chores done due to daydreaming!

Re-reading as an adult, I found it a bit sugary-sweet and improbably utopian, but still very enjoyable.

I loved these books. I remember devouring them five or six years ago and it was lovely. I cried like a baby in the last one, but that's for another review. This time, it was better than I remembered. Lovely, vivid descriptions that don't put me to sleep, lots of funny stories, and people that are real and completely relatable to. I will admit that I am a bit obsessed right now, like wanting to devour the books again even though I should be writing essays and sleeping, and watching the movies (which I haven't seen before).

Anne of Green gables (and onwards) helps me be a better person. Those kids are so wholesome that it inevitably rubs off on you, and makes you fiight for a simpler time when people know each other and can rely on each other and walk to school and teach at small one room school rooms. Anne is also a fabulous , strongwilled, imperfect individual, which is what makes her so loveable. I aspire to this:)

Madison and I loved this book. We had a chat about "bosom friends" and many other conversations about how things were back then. Every night it was "just one more chapter Grandma!" What a great way to spend a half hour every night with Madison!

I only own the first one so far, hope to get all of them.
I'm reading the most amazing story ever. I first saw the movie series and just had to read the book. Now I have Anne in the movie series and in the first book. I'm on chapter 7 so far, I'm loving ever page, every word of such a complex character such as Anne. Can't wait to meet Gilbert in there and Miss Stacy and Diana too :D and all of Anne's adventures through out the series.Though I am half way through Anne Of Green Gables, I find this book as well as the movie series enchanting and special. Something only a true heart could love and I think I'm one them. As your introduced to the characters, you begin to see their...... personality, what makes them such great and unique characters. Anne is our protagonist, a fiery red hair beauty who's soul is as deep as the ocean ha yet has a temper to match her hair hahah that is what was said in the book and well it's true! I highly recommend it, I can not stress this enough, Anne Of Green Gables is a great read!! I plan to read the whole series in my life time.

i really love this book about Anne and her life growing up on the green gables in PEI...It is a book that i would recommend anybody to read to their children someday
I liked it when they Matthew fell in love with Anne...and instead of them wanting a boy they kept her...and how she went to school and met Diana and a boozum friend..It was sad when Matthew died out in the fields on a sunny afternoon...and that changed them forever...I like how Anne also got to marry Gilbert when they grew up and adopted a little boy like Matthew and Marilla would wanted it...I recommend any one to watch the movies and read the books even the small children they would really like it...

The reason why I made it through this book is because I indentfy with Anne and always have. Ever since I watched it on tv. I'm not a bookworm, so reading this book was actually quite an accomplishment for me. Some of it is hard for me to see in front of me and that I think is the mark of a good book - weather you can see it in front of you. But this is regarding to the discriptions of the surroundings, which in real life I never paid much attention to anyways.. However, I can appreciate Montgomerys' beautiful language and I think she had influenced me to take a better look at the world around me.

I feel like these books belong to a very specific part of my childhood. Between the ages of 10-12 I devoured these stories, reading about 4 of them in one holiday as I remember. And luckily there are so many I could keep going until I got bored (hmm, not sure I ever did get bored). Having said that, I have no desire to reread any but perhaps the first book, which is unusual for childhood favourites - looking back they seem so sugary sweet and sentimental it is hard to imagine taking the same enjoyment in them, and I don't want to sour the memory. Anne Shirley is, at times, also a rather irritating main character - nothing ever goes wrong for her, she's Pollyanna-ish in her moods and she even loves washing up for God's sakes! Just as well, then, that she has Gilbert Blythe and Marilla providing the real emotional heart of the stories, and demonstrating the evolution of Anne's life.

I started reading "Anne of Green Gables" when I was 10 years old- my Grandmother was originally from Prince Edward Island & she wanted me to become familiar with the books. I loved them growing up, and still do. My sister & I gave each other the entire set for our birthdays- every year we would add another until we both had all of them. I plan on visiting PEI some day and looking into our family history.

Classics, totally girl stories but oh so worthwhile. Lucy Maud Montgomery's descriptions of the world around her characters are timeless. Unlike other writers of the time (or all times) her writing never gets tedious, like, say Jane Austen's writing *innocent whistle* Sorry, the reason you won't see any Austen on this list is because I have yet to finish one of her books, even though I've managed to wade through Victor Hugo and Dostoevsky at their worst.

I was forced to read the entire series by my mother when I was ten, because it's "a classic that all girls should read". I did, because she confiscated my Roald Dahl books and wouldn't give them back to me unless I write a two-page summary about the Anne series.

I'm never one for girly crap. Oh, I liked Little Women, because that at least had substance. But this, this is purely sentimental drivel. And Anne is a very stupid girl. She dyed her hair green, for goodness' sake.

Keep away. And please, don't subject your daughters to it.

This series ranks really high (maybe even first) on my all-time favorite list. I read the first one when I was about nine or ten years old and absolutely loved it. I got my hands on the entire series shortly thereafter and read them all. Every year, I make my way through the entire series at least once, and each time I do I find something new to treasure and enjoy. Anne's world is unbelievably detailed and peopled with vivid characters. Montgomery's writing truly brings it alive. Gorgeous series of books!
