Loved this book! The book considers the "how" of getting organizations to move their plans from a Powerpoint Slide to the real world. Like a past reviewer wrote, this book is about doing, not useless theory.

Here are the authors' three critical parts of implementation: people, strategy, operations.

Practical business book. I liked it and try to practice some of the principles. It is difficult to practice. Not sure effectiveness of these principles without a sufficient practical business background. Brij

This is a book for senior management or those aspiring to senior management. How to organize and mobilize large groups of people to create nerw things and to improve operations. Focus on three core areas: Strategy (including budget to fund goals), People (including significant effort in meaningful evaluation resulting in accountability) and operations (including measurement and tie back to the stratgeic goals and evaluation). Highly recommended as an overview and reminder of what is important.

I was reading on the topic, "Reward the Doers" on Page 73. First para states the following:

"If you want people to produce specific results, you reward them accordingly. This fact seems so obvious that it shouldn't need saying. Yet many corporations do such a poor job of linking rewards to performance that there's little correlation at all. They don't distinguish between those who achieve results and those who don't, either in base pay or in bonuses and stock options."

Sounds familiar? Let me read on to see what amazing solutions there can be to this.

This is definitely a quick read. While it is a management book, it is simple and doesn't contain much economic jargon. I also felt it was entirely relevant to non-profits and even teaching. A good read for any manager or entrepreneur as execution is essential for being effective and successful in reaching ambitious goals.

Great book for whatever business your in. Talks about the importance of goals, prioritization, process and the monitoring of milestones within the process so you'll be on track to hit your goals.
If you run a program at work or own your own business, you must have this book. Breaking ideas and goals down into tangible and attainable objectives is a failing in many businesses.

This will help you discover your inner executive... if you try to implement the lessons learned... be aware that other people around you will find you domineering... most likely because they are silver-spoon lazy ass americans who have never had to deliver in order to put food on the table.

For the rest of us, it's awesome.

But, it's always a good idea to be mindful & tactful. Use it, don't abuse it.

This is mostly common sense stuff, and I believe that, for the most part managers are either doing the things in this book without realizing it, or they are working very hard (with varying levels of success) learning to do them. The thing that bothers me is that many of the shining examples of execution in this book are now shining examples of bad execution. Times change, management theories change, and the best way to keep up isn't by reading someone else's success story and emulating it--the best way to keep up is never to stop learning and adapting, keep what works, and set aside what isn't working today. There's a good chance it will work tomorrow.

The book that shows how to get the job done and deliver results, whether you're running an entire company or in your first management job.

Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan togethere they've pooled their knowledge and experience into the one book on how to close the gap between results promised and results delivered that people in business need today. They resulted from the consistent practice of the discipline of execution; understanding how to link together people, strategy, and operations, the 3 core processes of every business.

Leading these processes is the real job of running a business, not formulating a "vision" and leaving the work of carrying it out to others. This book show the inportance of being deeply and passionately engaged in an organization and why robust dialogues about people, strategy and operation result in a business based on intellectual honesty and realism. The leader most important job - selecting and appraising people - is one that should never be delegated. As CEO personally makes the calls to check references for key hires. Why? With the right people in the right jobs, there's a leadership gene pool that conceives and selects strategies that can be executed. People then work together to create a strategy building block by building block, a strategy in sync with the realities of the marketplace, the economy, and the competition. Once the right people and strategy are in place, they are then linked to an operating process that results in the implementation of specific programs and actions and that assigns accountability. This kind of effective operating process goes way beyond the typical budget exercise that looks into a rear view mirror to set its goals. It puts reality behind the numbers and is where the rubber meets the road.

Finished reading it after recommended by many people who answered my call for help on how exactly I could implement a culture change in my organization that was high performance and executionally excellent. The framework follows one of my favorite principles (KISS) and allows anyone struggling with organizational performance, behavior problems to get good ideas to implement. I've adopted a number of their principles and recommendations with good effect. So I believe their principles and framework are valid for practical use. It stands out as one of those few business management books that connects theory with practical advice. One of the must have management books for the mid-senior manager needing to transform his/her organization to the next level.

Some great insight into how successful leaders have effectively employed the art of execution to achieve results. And a trip down memory lane for me with all of Bossidy's GE references. Many of the specific methodologies described in this book work best in a highly competitive work environment, but the fundamentals of execution are applicable in even the most family-oriented work culture. I read this book for a corporate class, and it provided good discussion topics.

I love business books that give you practical advice from real life experience, not just theory based, and this is one of the few. It was written for Top-Level managers, but it's very easy read nonetheless.

Execution wastes the first part telling you of the need to get things done. This part is part of the format for this type of book, but could very well be left out. However, the second part (and to a lesser extent, third part) of the book, make it worth the read. This book is broken into actionable segments. In short you can do this! There are times when words that need definition don't get defined well or at all. "Realisim" is a prime example of that. Read this book. I will definately reread this book from time to time.

Great book! I love it and recommend it to all my executive clients!A wake up call on the important of executing well and following through! Some have found it a bit heavy and hard to follow, but I disagree. You just have to embrace the topic of execution and allow yourself to be absorbed in it. Great stories and examples from companies from Honeywell and GE......a must read for LTM coaches!

I've read a lot of business books and have found they all fall into one of three categories; 1) useful, 2) interesting, 3) interesting and useful. What's unusual about Execution is that it's not only interesting and useful, but it falls into that category despite being written by people whose business experience is on an entirely different level than my own in that they are "big business" guys and I'm a small business entrepreneur. However, the book contains many principles in it that are applicable to any business, no matter the size or model, and in fact the book is highly applicable outside the business realm.

What I especially liked about the book is that it gives you the fly-on-the-wall perspective of what it's like to be the CEO of a Fortune 500 business. If you've ever wondered what it's like to run a huge company this gives you a great perspective. If I ever end up running a large company or the department of one, this is going to be the first book I'll re-read.
