Absolutely amazing book. It deals with problems that most teenagers have to go through such as divorce, parent's remarraige, and complicated relationships.
This is one of the best books I have ever read.

Sarah Dessen's latest is fanominal! I just fell in love with it, yet as I do with all of her books. This book is beautifully written, with a WONDERFUL love story. I've read it soooo many times I could probably recite half the book. :)

Definitely another great book by Sarah Dessen. It was kinda of weird, however, reading a book with so much girlyness, haha. It was still delightful to see how Sarah unfolds the romance in her traditional way; it's always so charming. The whole book just left me feeling good, and I was happy to read it. Huge fan.

This was an interesting book. By the end I thought it was great but in the beginning it took me a bit of time to really get into it. Sarah Dessen seem to be desperate to make the book long so she would just stretch out so much details on things and storylines that it left you wanting the story to just get on with it.

By the middle of the book it was when it started to get interesting between the relationship of Auden and Eli. I don't know the personal life of Sarah Dessen but from her insert/acknowledgment in the beginning you suddenly feel like each and every character was inspired by her personal experience in some way and you cannot help but be intrigued with Auden. Everything works out perfectly in the end which was great so it is worth reading but just be aware that in the beginning it takes some time to pick up.

I enjoyed the story but it didn't have the same charm that "The Truth About Forever" or "Just Listen" did. Still, I'd recommend reading it :)

I have read every Sarah Dessen book published. I was so excited to learn she was coming out with a new one, ALONG FOR THE RIDE, that I marked the release date on my calendar. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely. Finished it in two days time, too - it would have taken me less time but I had to factor in pesky responsibilities like work.

I love the way Dessen writes. Her characters are always real, and the storylines are believable - you can't ask for more than that!

As with other Dessen books, there are multiple lessons learned in this book. The two that I felt that were most important (and I know it sounds cliche) is "Live, Love, Laugh" and "Never judge a book by its cover."

ALONG FOR THE RIDE is about a girl named Auden, fresh out of high school, ready to embark on the next leg of life but doesn't really know how to do it. The academic part she has down pat; the fun, let loose and be free part she has a lot of trouble with. Auden didn't have the typical childhood - she was more of an adult than a kid while she was growing up, entertaining herself through countless adult dinner parties revolving around academia.

She missed out on so many rites of growing up - racing up and down her block on bicycles or skates, hanging out at the pool with friends, going on dates and even the prom. While it was great that she had such a drive to do well, her parents, now divorced, incredibly high expectations was also very damaging to her psyche.

The cherry topping - Auden is an insomniac. Nothing, no matter what, changes or cures her insomnia. Of course, this can be a good thing, too, at least in her case. I can relate to the insomnia issue - it's just too bad that I haven't met the guy of my dreams during one of my episodes. I felt sorry for her many times throughout the book.

So she escapes for the summer, leaving her overbearing mother behind, to live with her father, stepmother, and brand new sister. Is she trading one mess for another? It proves to be a summer of change and friendship and love.

Auden definitely doesn't have an easy time of it - she has a lot to face, from how the turmoil of her parent's divorce has really affected her to actually having real friendships with girls and a guy who is genuinely interested in her.

Thisbee shows Auden how to love unconditionally and the power of connecting. Eli shows her the magic of first love and where to get a great cup of coffee and a slice of pie in the middle of the night. Finally, Maggie, Leah, and Esther show how great friendships can be. Everyday brings something new and her summer in Colby teaches her to enjoy and appreciate the life she does have.

A perfect summer read.

I love "Along for the Ride"! Of all Dessen's book, this one as well as "Lock and Key" are by far, my favorite.

I guess I like this one the most because it's a story close to my age, my only regret it I didn't read it at the beginning of my summer instead of the day before and the day of my first college class. (:

This was a sweet ride. Auden decides to spend her last summer before college living with her father, step-mother and new sister. After living her entire life in academia, she is looking forward to relaxing for the summer, and getting a jump on her fall studies. But life doesn't do what we want, as Auden discovers.
Great read, loved it. Can't recommend it enough

Wow... it's been awhile since I read "This Lullaby," which is my favorite of Sarah Dessen's books, but I think this is her best since that one. She mixes romantic relationships, family issues, and friendships so effortlessly and beautifully, and it's more than apparent in "Along for the Ride." Very poignant, richly descriptive, and earnest, likable characters are Sarah Dessen's trademarks, and are beautifully brought out in her latest book.

The main problem I run into when reading Sarah Dessen's books is that she takes too much time setting up her characters horrible lot in life, instead of trying to resolve the problems through character development. Not so with this book. The plot didn't spend all its time explaining why Auden's life was so terrible; it made a healthy balance between the past and the present, what Auden was doing to trying and fix it. Also, the characters are just to die for. The vast majority of them were well-rounded and likable, which made it all the better to read. And the ending actually resolved something! Joy! Rapture! A new favorite, I must say.

It was an interesting story with interesting twists and turns. I have to say though that it wasn't the best in the series and I find it interesting how Dessen includes small insignificant details in her book from other of her books. Ihough, if you had not read any of her other books, you would not have known the reference.

When Auden suddenly decides to spend the summer before college with her father, stepmother and new baby stepsister, her whole life starts changing. When she meets Eli, a fellow insomniac loner, it changes even more, as Auden starts questioning who she really is - and who she wants to be. Sarah Dessen tells a great story, with characters that have you cheering for them the whole way.
