This is rightly mentioned in the top 10 books to read. It's hilarious and keeps you going from WW1 to WW2 until the 80's.
A real page twister, viewed by an homosexual (what phrases they used in those day will choke you) it helps if you know something of the traveller writers (whom Burgess alledgely and comically all met)including Joyce, Sartre,Dorothy Parker, Joseph Conrad but also Goebbels, Einstein and many others. His brother in law also becomes the new elected pope. What a wonderful imaginative way to write. Congratulations Mr. Burgess (a bit late).

I will cherish this book and reread it, I know.

Undoubtedly a modern classic. Immense in its scope. Erudite but accessible. Burgess can write with a wit I've never read other than Dickens and if all you know of him is through his Clockwork Orange infamy then I'd urge you to read this.

........ and how has history or human beings changed/evolved?

Evil as we know it is a mankind construct.

Burgess develops the notion SO well.

Who will make the film and when, I wonder.

Here is one of the books that most impressed me. The combination of immersion into the 20th century history, the richness of the exchanges between the many (and often colourful) characters and the very literate and elegant writing style mesmerized and fascinated me. A true master piece by any standard.
