This is one of the few books that is so good that as soon as I finished the last page I went to the first page and started the book again. Fantastic!

Another great book. Most of this author's writing is very good, not unlike earlier Stephen King and Dean Koontz. This is a great apocolytic novel about a post nuclear recovery.

So beautiful. Trying to survive in a post apocalyptic world and not succumbing to the base nature of humanity. Beauty is only skin deep and character shines right through. A must read.

Looking at the tags of this book (horror) and the picture (skulls)on the cover it is not a book I would pick up and read.... HOWEVER, I read this book when it first came out many years ago. I have read it again and again years since. It is one of the better thought provoking, enjoyable and exciting end-of-the-world as we know it books out there. I have given several copies away and recommend it very highly.

This was the first McCammon book I read and it caught my attention right off the bat. Though some parts of the book were slow, I started to feel for all of the main characters. They have become apart of me. I still get gooesbumps thinking about Swan and the beautiful lady she becomes at the end of the book.

Can't recommend this book highly enough. A real page-turner that I was unable to put down after the first few chapters. Strong characters, a good plot and great writing throughout.

This book outdoes 'The Stand'. Instead of a plague, you have nuclear war. When all is said and done, two bands of survivors face off against each other in the ultimate showdown of good vs. evil. Filled with unforgettable characters and imagery that places you clearly in the middle of the story, this is a book you won't be able to put down and won't forget when you have finished it.

My Favorite book, read it multiple times. Deals with world destruction and rebirth. Swan is a young girl that has been disfigured and travels a ravaged world looking for survivors. If you read and enjoyed "The Stand" you'll will also enjoy this bbok.

I read this when i was 18 years old the first time and couldnt put it down.............knowing this could happen it intrigued me to wonder what people would look like if we had to go through the masks good or evil. have read it a few times now but lost the book...am hoping to buy it again brilliant .

I've read it a half dozen times and it never ceases to please.At almost a 1000 pages, one still wants more at its conclusion. Where's the movie already!!! My all-time favorite novel. If you haven't had the pleasure, beg, borrow or steal this classic.

Truly EPIC. This book was amazing! There is some language in it, but if you can get past that you are in for an amazing and terrifying ride. The book engulfed me and I was shocked at every page and what was happening to the characters. I got personally invested in each character and it is rare when a book can do that. No wonder it won the Bram Stoker award the year it came out! Great Book!
