As per any Douglas Adams' books, I have whole heartedly enjoyed this zany ride - even after numerous reads. Adams smoothly wrote, among others, about the uncanny I Ching calculator (anything calculated above the value of 4 is "A Suffusion of Yellow"), insulting horoscopes, a looming refrigerator, and the "nonlinear, catastrophic structural exasperation" - which are all dead-guffaw-worthy. Altogether more, just as his H2G2's Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent, Dirk Gently is indisputably an endearing character. My two thumbs up to the late Douglas Adams for this amazing book.

If you like sarcasm, gods in peril, mortals getting mixed up in immortal business, or perhaps you have ever thought that your refrigerator was lurking at you from the kitchen, pick this one up. If you love The Guide this will amuse you as well. It's very interesting to know what Douglas thought the gods were up to. If you ever want a quick read to pass the time that will not only entertain you but make you go "doh!" upon reaching the end this is it. I only wish I could find the first Dirk Gently book.

Now I see where Neil Gaiman got his inspiration for American Gods.

Probably the weirdest Douglas Adams book. Norse gods running amok, attacking eagles, obsessions with linen, and a fight over opening the refrigerator. This is one oddball book that is hard to follow but I love it despite it's flaws. Just don't touch the hot potato!

I am a big fan of Adams' writing but though very well written, this book seemed like he had a point that he couldn't quite make. It would probably be a great graphic novel though as there are many fabulous images and interweavings of history, myth and modern life that would be fascinating in visual form.

Douglas Adams weaves a pretty intriguing mystery here, which never feels predictable. I think I laughed out loud more when reading 'Hitchhikers... galaxy', but this book scores very high on descriptions. Some of the descriptions are so sparkling, the elevate the most mundane of objects. However, I thought the denouement was very weak, and didn't create a sense of satisfaction.

One of the direct results of reading this novel at an early age was that I developed an interest in Eastern mysticism. Like most Douglas Adams' novels, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul is bursting at the seams with humor of absurdities, chaos, sarcasm, bathos, and much more. I read it when I was 14, and I can yet recall passages that still bring a smile to my face. I will definitely read it again, along with its precursor, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

My absolute hands down favorite Douglas Adams book. Most of my favorite conversations end up involving the interconnectedness of all things. Very few people can create such far fetched situations and odd ball characters that are completely believable without taking away some of their otherworldly strangeness. Douglas Adams presents gods, a sentient horse bound to a robotic monk, and a private dick with problems, motivations and thought processes that most of human kind will never share. This book is the antidote for all of the everyday man stories flooding fiction. You can't describe it using the phrases "it's like" or "a cross between" because there is nothing else in its hemisphere. I Love It.
My favorite Douglas Adams story. The interconnectedness of all things demands a repeat looks.

Quirky and fun. If you're a Douglas Adams fan, you must pick this one up. (Note: it is a sequel, although I really don't think they're that sequential.)

Adams' takes his brilliant character from 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' and gives her all the spotlight she deserves. A hilarious social commentary on the one's we prefer to ignore- the homeless and the omnipotent.

Mielenkiintoinen jatko Gentlyn holistiselle etsivätoimistolle, mutta ei aivan pääse samalle tasolle mielestäni. Ihan kelpo Adams ja suositeltava lukukokemus kuitenkin.

Whilst nowhere near as good as it's predecessor (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency), the Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul does include some magic moments in the continued adventures of the world's worst dressed and best (only)holistic detective.

The Gods have made a deal with some greedy mortals that threatens the very existence of the World. The only man who can save the world is Dirk Gently, but to do this he has to deal with a very angry Thor the God of Thunder, an ominously threatening fridge in his kitchen and a giant eagle which is determined to play I-Spy with him through his letter box...

This is one of those comforting books that I pick up again and again when I am stuck at home with the sniffles. Always makes me laugh, and the first page description of airports never fails to ring with truth.

It seemed like an easy job. All Dirk Gently had to do was prevent his client from being murdered by a big green monster that Dirk didn't believe existed. Unfortunately, it did. Now he has to explain how his client's head wound up spinning on a turntable across the room from his body, in a room that was sealed from the inside, as well as dealing with a certain Thunder God who seems to be running amok on Earth. Hilarious and well told.

The quirky mind of Douglas Adams sets his holistic detective Dirk Gently with an unspeakable refrigerator on the case of a client whose head rotating on a turntable greets Gently when he is hours late for their appointment. Gently eventually links this with a reported “Act of God” at Heathrow Airport, unrelenting vicious attacks by eagles, a Nordic man trying to get to Norway without a passport, a Coke machine that appears in odd places, and something nasty at Woodshead Hospital.

More philosophically, Tea-Time of the Soul, asks the question what happens to gods when the mortals who invented them become more interested in soft drink commercials.

Tea-Time is a quick, fun read. Ultimately Adams raises more questions than he resolves, but even so it’s another mind-bending journey by the author of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe.
