easily my favorite of the McCammon novels....a pretty girl with an ugly mark, a Vietnam vet, an Elvis impersonator, and a leprosy clinic...what more can you ask for

Gone South is one of those books that stays with you long after you read the final page. I was crushed when he stopped writing after this book. At the time I figured he was walking away at the top of his game, but he came back better than ever.

Very interesting characters and story line. It just had a lot of parts that made it not quite my kind of book. It had a nice ending though!

A down on his luck Vietnam vet finds himself on the run after killing a loan manager set on repoing the only asset he has: his truck. Down to the swampland of southern Louisiana he goes with two oddball bounty hunters on his trail. A woman with half a face of portwine birthmark joins the vet and they travel in search of The Bright Girl, a "healer". A wrong turn for the bounty hunters land them in trouble with drug kings. The story is full of suspense and intrigue.
