Would be an amusing story if it wasn't so gory. It did NOT make me believe in God nor does it explain WHY the story should do just that.
The sub-story about the large floating island of carnivorous fresh-water-producing algae would have been brilliant if it hadn't had just a few too many inconsistencies.

It took me a while to really get into this book, but boy was I glad I did! Comical, moving, horrific and thought provoking all in one. As soon as I finished it I wanted to read it all over again.

I enjoyed this, reminded me of Kensuke's Kingdom in a way. I liked the ending.

Life of Pi is a story about a teenage boy living in India in the 1970s; nothing is particularly staid about Pi: his name is short for Piscine (as in the French word for 'swimming pool), his father runs a zoo, and Pi decides that there is room in his heart for Hinduism, Christianity and Islam (at one point he thanks Lord Krishna for bringing Jesus into his life)!

However, Pi's father decides to relocate to Canada, and on the journey (which he has to share with many of the zoo inhabitants) across the ocean to the new continent, Pi's ship is wrecked and he finds himself stuck on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orang-utan, a zebra with a broken leg and a large Bengal tiger.
What ensues is Pi's attempt to survive in this highly unusual situation, which he does for far longer than would be expected

I found this book very readable and felt quite saddened when I finally finished it; Pi is a very well-constructed character with whom the reader can identify and feel compassion for. You really take the whole journey by his side, laughing when he does and balking at some of his survival methods.
I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to accompany Pi on his extraordinary adventure.

I forced myself through the end only to be terribly confused. Was a dream? Was it real? Was it a metaphysical experience? Surely the tiger and the boat were all symbolic for other things but by the end I just didn't care.
