A delectable series of short stories, that aren't too short- the narrative is fleshed out just long enough to engage the reader. A couple of times, I's able to guess (correctly) what would happen next. That said, I's also "blind-sided" by an unexpected twist in one tale. Overall, I preferred Part One to Part Two, despite the fact that the most touching story (in my opinion) is in Part Two. The "random" images on the cover finally made sense! I'm definitely buying a copy for my permanent collection!

Jhumpa Lahiri's strong point is writing short stories. Each touching tale leaves you satisfied but yearning for the next. A great read if you've been waiting for something similar to "Interpreter of the Maladies"

The pathos of her writing makes you re think. I am an bengali living abroad too, although culture shock isnt that obvious in my case, but I can completely feel the characters. They are people I know everyday. The struggle of her charecters to define their existence is so eternal yet so effervesant.
