I bought this at the thrift store as a summer read while traveling. Enh,it was OK. I guess I didn't really care about the characters.

A book about all the lonely people. Or more specifically, one lonely woman, Liz Dunn, and uninteresting people who suddenly has something very interesting happen to her. Or maybe a series of interesting things happen.
Love Coupland's style--witty, intimate, and unexpected.

This book taught me that it's never too late to try and rebuild what once was broken. To go for it even if you're scared. Perhaps most importantly it reminded me to trust in people and in myself.

Another strong story from Coupland, whose work I've enjoyed for years. But toward the end it started getting a little "out there" for me.

This is not flawless English writing, even for Coupland standards, but is as enjoyable and memorable and fun a plot as he seems to usually deliver. Easy to read, throught provoking, enjoyable--even its initially unnappealing gen-x-formulaic middle-aged overweight spinster heroine is truly missed once the book is over.

A quirky, funny, sad book about a misfit woman with an empty life, her dysfunctional family, and what happens when the child she gave up for adoption comes into her life as a dying adult. Well worth reading.

i really really really loved this book litereally until the last page. then on the last page, i was trying to figure out if the last passage ruined the previous 247 pages. i don't think it did, but it did bother me a bit that the main character tried so hard not to be mushy and sentimental for the entire novel, and then the last page she's flicking figurative diamonds at me? and i'm her friend?
