This is the most disturbing book I have ever read. It was extremly well written and made me very afraid to be a single woman when I was younger. It was like a car accident...I just couldn't look away.

Not done yet. About a third of the way through. Funny that I can take the graphic sex and gruesomely detailed violence...it's the elaborate & excessive info regarding the wardrobe, shoes & accesories that are driving me crazy. (Manolo Blahnik suade pumps, Ralph Lauren cotton shirt, Armani suit, Christian Dior pinstripe socks, blah, blah...ugh!!)I skip them all everytime!

very dark humour but extremely funny, a battle between catch 22 and this for my favourite book.you will need a strong stomach but even without the violence it is a good comentary on the shallowness eveloping the 80's along with the rise of capitalism

This book was graphic, but almost comically so. I realize that it was a commentary on the excess of the 1980's, but there were parts of the story that were so unrealistic that they were annoying. For example, the violence and the carnage that took place inside of Patrick Bateman's apartment were so over the top that it would be impossible not to ruin every single thing in the place. Bateman even finds skin & blood from several of his victims on his furniture or on his walls long after they have been killed. Also, the disappearance/murder of Paul Owen appear to have been a dream & the murder of 2 prostitutes appears to have been imagined. Is it possible that Bateman was so high (he was a cocaine addict) that he truly couldn't tell reality from fiction?

I have to say that I truly prefer the movie (with Christian Bale) over the book, but I also felt that way about "Less Than Zero." Somehow, Ellis's books translate much better on film than in their original form. I'm not sure what that says about him as an author, but I doubt I'll read another one of his books.

Not for the fainthearted a tale of a yuppie serial killer in 80`s new york the killing descriptions are very graphic and alot better than the film of the same name starring christian bale.

Down side of the book is the attention to detail of patrick batemans daily hygiene routines and cd collection but gives you a good glimpse of the man.

Yikes. Although I was aware of the book's notoriety, I wasn't prepared for the stomach-turning depravity of some of its scenes. While I could appreciate the satire of 80s Wall Street culture, the combination of dry humour and buckets of blood just didn't work for me.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I had been wanting to read the book and finally got it from the library. There was a lot of it that I thoroughly enjoyed, but wow, it was SO gruesome.
