Psychological thriller containing all the elements of an indie movie; classic rock music, the nuance of Honolulu, skeletons, a murder mystery, but most quirky of all, a happy ending. Sometimes confusing, but in classic Murakami-style, the protagonist often delves into poetic monologues which are a delight to read.

I enjoyed the story very much; usual disappoint for me at the lack of a strong ending. Still, one of his better works.

Fabulous book...so elegantly written...it's one of the few books I wished was at least part of a trilogy. But perhaps that is the beauty of it...

Murakami can do a lot better than this overlong Chandlereque book. It truly sucks.

This is the first book I read of Murakami. I have heard of him and found myself choosing between his book and that of Malcolm Gladwell. I decided to choose Dance dance dance to kill more than five hours of waiting time at Changi airport last Sunday.

To my surprise, I did not like the book. I find it boring at some point. The story I felt should have reached a climax sooner than what was written. The ending sounded indecisive to me. I feel that he should have made a more decisive stance about 'disappearing.' 'People do not easily disappear' sounded so lame to me when he was trying to build up that expectation. In the end, I have a decision not to read any of his other books.

I seldom read every word in a book. One can, for instance, browse through Dan Brown´s books in a few hours just by reading a paragraph here and there. Murakami´s texts however requires one´s undivided attention. Every word has to be read, and every word sneaks into your consciousness, or rather sub-consciousness, and sticks there. It is both disturbing and rewarding at the same time. Murakami is one the absolutely best contemporary writers.

Another fabulous work by Haruki. He aptly describes the void of human in the hustle bustle of life. As usual, thrilling, imaginative, loose end which allows you to define the message yourself...
