This is the second book of Murakami's that I've read. They've both been very evocative, melancholy, introspective stories. At many points one suspects that large fractions of the plot have only occurred in the protagonist's head. I'm likely to read more Murakami in the future, if only to try to figure out whether I'm missing some key element that unlocks the story and takes it to another level. There is always a feeling that there's another way I can read this story.

I had never heard of Murakami until I saw him listed as a favorite by many of my facebook friends. It was a pure coincidence that the same day I noticed several of his books in our office's library.

This was my first Murakami novel, and I'm convinced. His writing is concise, powerful, like Hemingway, but much more emotional. He reveals the inner thoughts of his characters, even the most personal and banal onces, in a way that is never cliche or crass. His turn of phrase is electric - one of my favorites: "What we needed most were not words and promises but the steady accumulation of small realities." So true for so many relationships at so many times.

I love Murakami's style! He keeps on suprising me with his originality. The book flows smoothly and agressively draws you into it (my 3am reading material). There is nothing predictive about the story line, he keeps it fresh and exciting. Main character is human in every step of his journey, his portrayal is deep and complex. Surrounding is colourful, he does justice to everything and everyone who gets a mention.
It's raw and heart-breaking and lustful and real.

"Gefährliche Geliebte", extremely disapointed! not even a bit erotic, totally superficial and only classy but unimaginative! stupid dialogues and simple scenes
