Valuable but biased. A quick glance at Bukey's "Hitler's Austria" or Browning's "Ordinary Men" will show that it wasn't just Germans. If anything, one could argue that Germans were the least antisemitic of all the peoples under Hitler at the height of his power. Goldhagen seems unwilling to acknowledge much of eastern Europe's enthusiastic participation in the Holocaust.

Very disturbing. This is a well researched book that helps to see the total picture of how hatred can take over a population.

Excellent. This book focuses on the specific ways Germans killed the Jews in WWII, narrowing its focus to three main ways: concentration camps, the SS and SD police divisions, and death marches. The title is poignant because all these people running these death camps and killings seamlessly blended back into society at the end of the war. Mr. Goldhagen's point is to show that if this can happen in civilized society slightly over 60 years ago, it can happen again. And it can happen to be you called upon to do the torturing. Or perhaps you will be among those arbitrarily chosen to die.

I find the subject fascinating, but as a "read", I have found this to be a very difficult book for me to really get into.

While at times overly scholarly in tone, there is something about this book that rings true, especially in light of what the Arabs are teaching their children nowadays.
