The hysteria surrounding this book is unwaranted. It's simply a dry, dispassionate look at some empirical data and some simple conclusions which are supported by these data. There is no inherent agenda.

I’ve read this book back when it was published, but I still remember the disturbance it caused. It reminds one what happens when intellectual elites become blinded by what they hypothesize and are more than willing to torture the numbers till they confess to their ‘truth’.

Oh, how the Left howled when this came out!They shouldn't have, because one of the key lessons driven home in this very analytical book is that the failure of American education is not in fact the fault of the Left, but due to trying to teach too many kids that which is beyond their comprehension.A bracing thing to say in these times of ridiculous egalitarianism (we're ALL stars now), for which Murray has been punished ever since.
