The author's agenda and bias are the only things unearthed here, at the expense of the archeological evidence.

Finally, actual science applied to biblical archaeology. A great treatise on forming conclusions from the evidence rather than searching for evidence to support conclusions already determined.

Finkelstein is a true archaeological scholar, who has done great service in excavations especially at Megiddo. He does shows a strong bias toward a minimalistic stance on the Hebrew Scriptures. He challenges the historicity of Biblical narratives from the Patriarchs through the United Kingdom. He finds the N. Kingdom led by Omri as best attested by archaeological evidence. To gain a full view of the issues, one should also consult William Dever's works or Bietak.

So who did write the old testament and when? This book gives a wonderful, unbiased interpretation of what archaeology has to say about the Old Testament today. There is not a well-known biblical scholar out there today that doubts that the books of moses were written well after the times they claim to be written, and by five distinct hands with different political motives, not by Moses himself. On top of that, there is no archaelogical evidence that exodus ever occured, nor is there any evidence for a world-wide flood. Wonderful read!

i thought the writing style was good but also full of extrapolations and suppositions that were not fully supported with concrete evidence
