First, for those that complain over lack of detail, keep in mind that The Song of the Lioness series was written before the Harry Potter series was a gleam in Rowling's eye. Before it was proven that kids liked to read, this type of book was lucky to be allowed 250 pages. A LOT had to be cut or streamlined. This series is what ignited my love of reading. Tamora Pierce remains my favorite author 24 years after first reading Alanna. Her characters are real and the plots are always enjoyable. When I first read this book years ago, I wanted a different ending. After dozens of re-reads and a little more life experience, I realized Alanna made the right choices. I recommend this series to everyone who loves fantasy, young adult, or just a good story.

The thrilling conclusion to the Song of the Lioness Series. Thom reappears (well actually he's mentioned posthumously). He died trying to bring Count Roger back to life. Roger does in fact come back to life, and is duely killed by Alanna yet again (serves him right). The main event of the book though is when Alanna goes on a thrilling quest for the Dominion Jewel (which will of course reappear in The Immortals). This Jewel makes the King incredibly powerful, although I can't say what power it gives him, I will say it has to do with magic. She brings it back, just in time for Prince Jonathan's Coronation. As King of Tortall Jonathan makes Alanna his Champion-the third highest office in the Kingdom, basically she answers only to the King and fights only for him. Prince Jonathan also marries, not Alanna, but a K'miri woman named Thayet. She too plays a large role in The Immortals. A good book for anyone who has read the others.

i was devasted when faithful, thom and liam died. i was fully crying at the end of it. sorry to anyone who hasnt read it. i spoiled it for you.

I only finished this book because it was the last in the series. It ties up the loose ends pretty nicely, but seems to cover too much territory. Would have been better as two books with more detail.

The battle to win the Dominion Jewel, the deaths of the King and Queen, Alanna's last battle with Roger, and the true warriors death of Liam Ironarm. And then at the end of all that Alanna finally gives in and gets betrothed to George. A very good read or re-read
