The battle to win the Dominion Jewel, the deaths of the King and Queen, Alanna's last battle with Roger, and the true warriors death of Liam Ironarm. And then at the end of all that Alanna finally gives in and gets betrothed to George. A very good read or re-read

I only finished this book because it was the last in the series. It ties up the loose ends pretty nicely, but seems to cover too much territory. Would have been better as two books with more detail.

Tamora Pierce is my favorite author so far. This series and the Beka Cooper books (Terrier and Bloodhound) are my absolute favorites. They are her best so far. My favorite series by Tamora Pierce so far. Tamora Pierce is my favorite author and this series as well as the Beka Cooper books (Terrier and Bloodhound) are her best so far.

A fantastic series with a teenage girl heroine. It's one of those that you can't stop reading once you've cracked the first page.

Alanna commands very little respect from me in her series. Time periods are recorded somewhat erratically and her willingness to sleep with yet another man really made me want to give her a good slap in the face. Maybe two. If she was worth more than the "kitten" Shang described her as, she'd root herself in that and only give herself to one man. I wasn't very surprised as to her romantic choice in the end; the other conclusion of Roger of Conte didn't surprise much either, because he had to die; no villain lives happy in these fairytales. All in all, this was one of the few books written by Tamora Pierce that earned a 'meh' from me.

Brava! As I have finished book four in this quartet, I am startled to see just how far Alanna has come my time with her. (Although, the last book really could have been two, as one plot ends and another begins mid-story...) It was fun to see Alanna's friends as working adults, and the final confrontation was perfectly executed in its brevity. There are many happy endings - as there should be in such a tale - and my only disappointments with the series are those same disappointments I have with the feminist creed. I can't wait to share these books with my dear little self-rescuing princess when she is old enough! ...And Goddess bless! There are more heroines to come in the realm of Tortall... <3

First, for those that complain over lack of detail, keep in mind that The Song of the Lioness series was written before the Harry Potter series was a gleam in Rowling's eye. Before it was proven that kids liked to read, this type of book was lucky to be allowed 250 pages. A LOT had to be cut or streamlined. This series is what ignited my love of reading. Tamora Pierce remains my favorite author 24 years after first reading Alanna. Her characters are real and the plots are always enjoyable. When I first read this book years ago, I wanted a different ending. After dozens of re-reads and a little more life experience, I realized Alanna made the right choices. I recommend this series to everyone who loves fantasy, young adult, or just a good story.

Beautiful, satisfying ending to the quartet. I did start to feel more and more frustrated with the fact that it's a book written for teenagers as the series progressed, though -- as the plot became heavier, the inadequacy of the euphemisms, particularly for death, became painfully obvious. And lot of the romance was ridiculously contrived in this book, but how can I resist such a neat and pat ending?

The fourth and final book in the Song of the Lioness makes all the other books worthwhile. All story lines are tied up, all destines realized. It is clear that the once-Mary Sue main character is now the Lioness she was prophesied to be. I quite enjoyed this quartet, so much so that I've already reserved the next in the Tortall verse: The Immortals. The only thing I regret is not having read them when I was growing up - I think Pierce's gender bending MC would have sat quite well with me in my youth.

The thrilling conclusion to the Song of the Lioness Series. Thom reappears (well actually he's mentioned posthumously). He died trying to bring Count Roger back to life. Roger does in fact come back to life, and is duly killed by Alanna yet again (serves him right). The main event of the book though is when Alanna goes on a thrilling quest for the Dominion Jewel (which will of course reappear in The Immortals). This Jewel makes the King incredibly powerful, although I can't say what power it gives him, I will say it has to do with magic. She brings it back, just in time for Prince Jonathan's Coronation. As King of Tortall Jonathan makes Alanna his Champion-the third highest office in the Kingdom, basically she answers only to the King and fights only for him. Prince Jonathan also marries, not Alanna, but a K'miri woman named Thayet. She too plays a large role in The Immortals. A good book for anyone who has read the others.
