Me encanto, realmente llegas a aprender muchas cosas sobre la cultura china y la (mal llamada) revolución cultural. Y puede que entiendas un poco mejor a un pueblo tan distinto al occidental.

This book opened up a dialog between me and my parents about their experiences in the cultural revolution. It is a jarring and painful read -- due to the subject matter, not the writing style. Some scenes continue to haunt me (e.g., a young schoolgirl, who had clearly been tortured, is shot and killed in front of her classmates). It follows three generations of Chinese women from the fall of the warlords through the Japanese attacks and the Cultural Revolution, and the latter's far-reaching effects. Also of note: This book is banned in China.

Novela biográfica de tres generaciones en una familia antes, durante y después de la Revolución Maoísta y la Revol. Cultural. Un duro y minucioso relato sobre las causas y las decepciones del régimen maoísta.

I love this book very interesting never knew this about China. What the people there went though under Mao was unhumanly cruel, unforgivable.

This is a family history tied to the history of China in the twentieth century, covering the Civil War, the Nationalist period, the Communist takeover and the Cultural Revolution.

The reader feels pity and terror at what the Chinese people have endured. The author and her family are to be admired for their courage and spirit.

We would rather have socialist weeds than capitalist crops." - Madame Mao

"We want illiterate working people, not educated spiritual aristocrats." - Madame Mao

"Mine is a very matter-of-fact approach to the problem. If you can select a population and they're educated and they're properly brought up, then you don't have to use too much of the stick because they would already have been trained. It's like with dogs. You train it in a proper way from small. It will know that it's got to leave, go outside to pee and to defecate. No, we are not that kind of society. We had to train adult dogs who even today deliberately urinate in the lifts."
- Lee Kuan Yew on Singapore society, The Man & His Ideas, 1997
