I just have to say a big thank you to Mr. Tabor - this book opened my eyes and answered most of my questions, changed and confirmed my own opinions about Jesus and Christianity itself - at the end of the day, it's always been about power, control over people and land ... Will recommend to all of my friends.

An interesting read. Tabor does a reasonable job of drawing the reader's attention to Jesus' ancestry in the royal line of David. There was nothing new here to anyone reasonably familiar with the Gospel of Matthew and the background in the Davidic covenant and the Isaiah prophecies.

Tabor had some interesting archaeological information, a lot from his own research, but his conclusions to me seemed much too speculative. It prompted me to go online and look at what other scholars are saying about his conclusions.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who wants an objective analysis of the evidence for Jesus' claims to the kingship of Israel, or for an introduction to Jesus' "Gospel of the Kingdom", but for the more serious student who can discern between evidence and mere speculation this book provides some useful material.

the first credible historical account of the life and times of Jesus I've ever come accross! It's all about politics as usual. Still - it's also an archeological thriller.

Tabor makes a good case for Jesus in the context of his own family. Situations hinted at but never detailed in the current orthodox scripture.

Goes well with the recent discovery of a possible tomb of the family of Jesus in Talpiot...

Worth reading..

i read most of the book, however i think my interests or more so personality got in the way when reading this book, i do care for facts and truths that come alive in books, however i perfer books that mess with your way of percieveing god, or see the scriptures and or life style, i think he could have maybe done a better job doing that. However anyone who want to think the covers off the page of books , then i say shoot for it, and give it a read.

As someone who's very interested in early Christianity and the historical development of religions, I have to say I found this book to be quite disappointing. Tabor's theories and conclusions are built upon the weakest of speculations and 'what if's. I was hoping for more solid information, but the book felt nearly on the same part with the Da Vinci code for wild speculations and unfounded conclusions. However, there are some nice anecdotes of real history here, largely based on Tabor's own archeological experience. These are nice and informative about the history of 1st century Palestine, but they don't make up for the rest of the book's shortcomings.

Tabor has historically reconstructed the Bible and presents his arguments on the Jesus family with a gentle knowledge, I found it easy to understand and it even made me want to read the Bible!
