This is my favorite book, of the thousands of novels I've perused and loved, this is the best. Each time I reread it I am more amazed at the vivid imagery he created. That he did so using dialogue almost exclusively, well, it's Hemingway. He's one of the greats for a reason.

This was my first Hemingway, it was sort of like reading Fitzgerald without the rich descriptions and humor. His writing style gives the reader a snapshot of a scene and situations found therein rather than a lovely painting--how you feel about Hemingway is contingent on which you prefer (needless to say, I prefer a canvas to a camera).

sorry to say this was one I didn't love. I couldn't make a connection with the characters nor relate to the events.

Despite Bernie O'Dwyer's claim that I read this to fulfill my middle school reading requirements, I thought this was a decent read. It shoots between straight dialogue between the characters to descriptions of the european landscape. The story of a group of self-destructive socialites is a bit lost on me though as I didn't feel that any of the characters really grew in the end. Still, a good read due to his unique writing style.

Savrsenstvo.. o svim generacijama koje su sazrijevale u ratu...o izgubljenoj generaciji....o onima koji bauljaju, kotrljaju se kroz zivot, svjesni potpunog besmisla iluzije... prokleto savrsena knjiga koja se ne moze opisati rijecima... tj. savrseno katarzican osjecaj i osjecanje stvara...

I really enjoyed this book. Took me a while to get through since I only read it on the train, but it was great.

This is probably my favorite Hemingway novel. I read it out loud to my wife. To really understand it you should also read "Death in the Afternoon", Hemingway's nonfiction study of bull fighting. (Also some great pictures in "Death".)

It's one of those books that you have to read for school so you don't look forward to it. But I must say that I was nicely surprised. It's such a great piece of literature. I reread this book at least every year or so.

It is a classic for a reason!!! Hemingway writing style has the ability to be simple and complex all at once!!!

Ernest writes in short sentences. Open the book to any page to find a passage like this: "She sighs, stares off into the distance. If only the war hadn't happened. We were so beautiful then..."

Incredible book. His economy of language has been written about time and time agian, so I won't go into that, but still--every person who wants to have a chance at writing well in any genre of writing needs to read this book and study what a master craftsperson does with language. Plus, let's be honest--one of the only books out there on the subject of genital injury *grin*

This is the sort of war stories that hemingway is known for. Too many of his books are good, like for whom the bell tolls.

My favorite part is when Mothra cuts off Jake's wang in the war, rendering him unable to satisfy Brett, or any other woman.

I loved this book because I'm an ex-alchie and there was drinking on pretty much every page. Also I love Hemingway's prose. One of the main character's dick was blasted off during the war so he was a steer. I found myself wondering if that's how Hemingway felt about himself.
