The most violent book I've ever read. Does a good job of dealing with a ton of characters and organizations. This is probably the most important campaign in the Tanith 1st's history.

This is when the series, in the third book, really starts to come together as a whole and the character development takes off. The action is set in a massive "hive city", and roughly based on the battle of stalingrad. Gaunt and the First-and-Only are reunited with a rival regiment and must cooperate with them and local forces as a massive chaos war host seeks to obliterate the city they defend. Abnett's talent for giving you an idea of what is going on in the entire theater of war really shines here.
