A great book, my second book by this author and even better than "Change of Heart" in my opinion. A bit slow to start but once you got to know the different characters, you soon got involved with the story. A sad story but again you get to learn about the American judicial system and also get to learn about bone marrow transplants and how it can affect DNA, totally fascinating! Am already looking forward to my next Jodi Picoult book!!

This book flows well, making it easy to read and a page-turner, but by the end I was left feeling slightly irritated - the main character was difficult to warm to, and I felt the ending was a let down. It won't put me off reading 'My Sister's Keeper' though, as I've heard that is probably the best by this author.

an emotionally hard read at times, but it was good book to get you thinking and questioning your own standards, and judgements. How far would you go for someone you loved? good question.
I made the mistake of not reading the write up on the back, and was intially shocked, and contiuned to be most of the way through this book, but it was so well written and compelling to read, and as always picoult left you asking your self questions and questioning your own judgment and morals.

Ive enjoyed every Picoult book that I have read, (7 of them now) but this was not my favorite. Its a very good read, and a page turner for sure, but I had some issues with the plot and also with the Main character who I didnt find very likeable at all. All in all it was a decent book, but Picoult has done better.

I picked this book up at Zuly’s recommendation. Normally I don’t like books where murder is involved to any degree, so I was a bit skeptical going into this one.The author has a unique writing style. The book is written in first person narrative, where the narrator is Nina, the mother. It is also written in third-person from the viewpoint of all the main characters (all of them EXCEPT Fisher, Nina’s attorney). In between chapters it also contains little memories written in first person by Nathaniel, the son.Perfect Match is a story of a mother trying to protect her son. She is a prosecutor and has handled many child molestation cases only to come home one day and find out her own child has been molested. She knows that the legal system does not work in the child’s best interest in these sorts of cases, so she decides to take the law into her own hands.I didn’t care for any of the main characters. I thought all of them were completely selfish. The ending of the book has a twist, but it doesn’t really make the book any better in my opinion. All in all, it was a WONDERFUL book. Definitely one of my new favorites.

First off, this is the fourth book I've read by Jodi Picoult. I wasn't expecting much from it because her previous novels have been so-so to me. Her books are always the same. Dramatic beginning, people finding out, people pointing fingers, a trial, and then a last ditch effort at a twist. EVERY TIME. And it happened in this novel as well, when I was hoping for something new.

My main gripe with this novel is the main character Nina Frost. I don't know how she expects any one to sympathize with this character! It was torture reading about her and even finishing this book, but any book I read no matter whether I like or not, I always finish. Nina is controlling, has no guilt, she's selfish, she cheats on her husband of all things that poor man..., she jumps to conclusions (as evidence by the fact she killed a innocent man and was ready to do it again to the real rapist!!). It was just a horrible read. Like some cheesy soap opera.

Third, there's the issue of the whole moral dilemma. Is it okay to take the law in to your own hands in the name of love? I felt disgusted by the authors justification of Nina's actions and those around her. It's okay to kill a man to protect your child, but would she say the same thing if a man raped a woman in the name of love? I mean come on, that's all it is. It's just "LOVE". What gives one person special control of the law but not another? The answer is it doesn't and that's why you SHOULDN'T bend the law.

And then there is Nina's best friend, Patrick. My God, the author had the audacity to have Nina say "it would be beyond the lines propriety for Patrick to give her a gift for christmas" but yet they hold hands, touch each other tenderly, know each other's thoughts, go out together for drinks... Their whole entire relationship was beyond what it should have been, yet everything in this book the author justifies. Even them sleeping together (no surprise there). If I had a male friend and did those things with, my husband would have a well deserved fit!

Which brings me to my next point, Caleb, Nina's husband. Like all Jodi's previous novels I've read, the male is always the quiet, submissive, helper who gets pushed around and out shadowed by his female counter parts. It's getting really annoying. The only person I felt sorry for in this book was Caleb. Who would want to live with someone like Nina who does no wrong and is free to cheat and kill with no repercussions?

Even though I could say alot more about why I really hate this book, my last point will be the ending. Just like in "My Sister's Kepper", it feels like Jodi Picoult has no idea how to end a book peacefully, so she throws in a soap opera ending or something totally unbelievable. Am I suppose to believe the Nina Frost, who shot a man in cold blood in front of dozens of people, somehow gets by violating her bond no repercussions, going outside her property limit with an electronic bracelet and yet not cops show up (isn't that convenient?), she gets to live at home with her husband and molested child, somehow gets a hung jury (once again, convenience), and the judge only chargers her with manslaughter and she's allowed to go home scotch free, no jail time? What the hell. It's so ironic how the whole theme of this book was the legal system wasn't good enough to provide justice for Nina's child, but in the end, the legal system doesn't give the correct justice to Nina for killing an innocent man. Go figure.

Good read, but one too many characters (there were two that weren't really relevant to the overarching theme of the story and could have done without and I don't think Picoult did a good job of developing them in relation to the story and the other characters). Was surprised by the final three pages. Overall, good read, tough topic.

I’m disappointed! I usually find Picoult’s books amazing and readable. This one is not as good as others at all. It’s such a thwarted story especially the pathetic ending. It's so ironic how the whole theme of this book was the legal system wasn't good enough to provide justice for Nina's child, but in the end, the legal system doesn't give the correct justice to Nina for killing an innocent man. Go figure.

Description:

What does it mean to be a good mother? How far would you go in the name of love -- and justice? Perfect Match In the course of her everyday work, career-driven assistant district attorney Nina Frost prosecutes child molesters and works determinedly to ensure that a legal system with too many loopholes keeps these criminals behind bars. But when her own five-year-old son, Nathaniel, is traumatized by a sexual assault, Nina and her husband, Caleb, a quiet and methodical stone mason, are shattered, ripped apart by an enraging sense of helplessness in the face of a futile justice system that Nina knows all too well. In a heartbeat, Nina's absolute truths and convictions are turned upside down, and she hurtles toward a plan to exact her own justice for her son -- no matter the consequence, whatever the sacrifice.

Feelings:

This is one of my favorite Picoult books. A very emotional ride (especially for a mom of a young child), however, this book makes you feel EVERY emotion from every character. It's a wonderful read. With an ending that nobody sees coming!

This is an amazing novel. Picoult's characters are all broken yet perfect at the same time. I was completely drawn into this novel and was continually surprised till the very end. While the novel centers around the rape of a child, the focus is more so on the family and their response rather than the crime itself. I've never read a Jodi Picoult novel that wasn't brutally and beautifully honest.

Picoult never fails to send your head reeling with questions & this book is no exception. Tapping into the recent scandals of sexual abuse within the church, the plot follows a woman & her husband through the harrowing realization & aftermath of the abuse of their young son. She uses "flashbacks" that are memories of the boy at the center of the turmoil to piece the story together. With all the twists & turns of the plot, you'll be hard pressed to put this one down. Perhaps this is the most difficult read in the Picoult library simply because of its uncomfortable subject. But she handles it with finesse & care so that you, the reader, feel as if you're there watching the events unfold. Good for people who like crime novels or courtroom drama. Excellent read!

As an assistant district attorney, Nina Frost prosecutes the sort of crimes that tear families apart. But when Nina and her husband discover that their five-year-old son Nathaniel has been sexually abused, it is her own family that is devastated. The world Nina inhabits now seems different from the one she lived in yesterday; the lines between family and professional life are erased; and answers to questions she thought she knew are no longer easy to find.

Overcome by anger and desperate for vengeance, Nina ignites a battle that may cause her to lose the very thing she's fighting for.

****************

Picoult very rarely disappoints with her story telling. I was gripped from the start. A great read despite the delicate subject matter of child abuse, very sensitively written. She carries you along at page turning speed and just as you think you have it sorted out in your mind...whoosh another twist and turn, and it carries on right to the very last page. The narration jumped about a bit, and at times I had maybe to read paragraphs twice to make sure I knew who was speaking, but once I got into the way of it was fine. Well researched as always with the court case routine and also the medical/forensic issues, DNA explanation etc.

I enjoyed this book. I like the way Jodi Picoult shows all the different perspectives of her characters and how they deal with a very difficult situation that no parent and especially no child should go through. Parts were disturbing but I understand why she had to be graphic. Great read!
