it was petty good! especially as it takes place a lot in israel where i was in july 2000. and it talks a lot about Jesus. altho, it's NOT what i want to HEAR about Jesus!! a lot of crazy suppositions. but that's all they were. the tempe in the book is so different from the tempe on the TV show Bones. but i still like her an dlook forward to reading more books in this series.

I take a slightly guilty pleasure from crime thrillers of this ilk but this was absolutely terrible. My first and last read by Reichs.

Always love my Bones novels, not one has ever failed me and I doubt they ever will! Definitely liked the Jesus theme on this one and I think the archeologist in me will be doing a little research on this one.

Promised to be really good - but lightweight in comparison to the DVC or Labyrinth. Very claustrophobic when they were searching the tombs - especially as I was stuck on a helicopter in fog while reading that bit. I also learned a lot about Israel - made me want to go. The ending came a bit abruptly and was slightly disappointing but then I suppose it had to be given the potential importance of the "Cross Bones". Very good and quick summer read - I even bought another Kathy Reichs afterwards (both came from our local charity shop @ 50p).

The original plot is very interesting and thought provoking however Kathy Reichs usage of language with respect to her's profession(Forensic anthropologist) sometimes gives the reader an impression that he is reading some forensic report rather than a novel.

Hard to read considering the fact that a lot of it was sacrilegious. Most of the book was dogging my Catholic beliefs.

one cannot help but compare this book with The Da Vinci Code, and the conclusion is Da Vinci is a way better read. The ending of this book is too lame compared to the great start.

If you liked the Da Vinci Code you will love Cross Bones. It was a fast moving plot with lots of Forensic details with religious conspiracy theory taken one step further than Dan Brown.

This is my favorite Brennan book. It was just so very Davinci Code-ish.

One of the most topically interesting books by Reichs, the history and conspiracy interjected on top of the standard Tempe Brennan forensic fare made Cross Bones a great, and page-turning read.

Totally disappointing! It is a blatant attempt at riding the tide of the different theories on the `history' of Jesus. As a detective story, it starts nowhere, goes nowhere and does not arrive anywhere! It is totally devoid of action and development and is built solely upon verbal analysis, whether it be total jibberish between an archaeologist and forensic anthropologist, or guesswork and unnatural flirting between the latter and her cop lover. Despite how the publisher might wish to promote Reichs as having surpassed Cornwell, I wonder if Reichs, not unlike Cornwell, has exhausted all her good stories.

To begin, yes, I think we are all reminded of the Da Vinci Code whenever anyone writes anything to do with this subject.
But unlike the Da Vinci Code, Cross Bones was decently written, had interesting characters that we see in new situations, and had a plot that was completely original (I may be the only person to notice it, but Dan Brown has an irritating habit of reusing the same plotline in all his books... in short, if you've read one Dan Brown book, you've read them all).
Also unlike Dan Brown, I didn't get the feeling that this book was written for the sole purpose of stirring up controversy.
I would recommend this to anyone, and if you're trying to pick a "Jesus controversy" adventure novel to read, this one beats out Dan Brown hands down.

This book really missed out on an opportunity to become a satanic verse type controversy.
Reichs alludes to themes such the bones of Christ, Jesus as not resurrected, Early Judaism and possible Christian involvement at Massada as well as pigs.

It felt more like an author being clever about her research for the novel than giving the reader the story they deserve for sticking with it , never mind the time taken in further research to explore topics mentioned.

In the end an opt out scorned woman committed murder and no resolution to the bones mystery due to them being lost in a fire was the appeasement route the author went down keeping her Christian , Jewish, And Muslim readers happy.

This was my least favorite of the Temperance Brennan books. It seemed more like a commercial for her friend's book than an actual "Bones" novel. Cross Bones has more of a focus on archeology and a mystery than on the physical anthropology and police work of the previous books. It is a good book, just not as entertaining as Reichs' others have been.

Like the plot, but after a few pages I got fed up with the way it's written - very short sentences, sometimes it didn 't make sense to finish it with a full stop. However, I persevered and once the storyline moved to Israel, I was hooked. I actually loved the way she finished the chapters - made me read the next one straight away, and also, liked Brenann's sarcasm. At the end of the day, I enjoyed the book, but wouldn't be reading any Reich's work anytime soon.

The relationship between the protagonist and her male lover is fun to read. The action/suspense is not bad. One tiny little bugbear... every chapter ends on a cliff-hanger, sometimes embarrassingly so, as in: "My skin went taut from scalp to sternum" and "His next words sent ice up my spine."

This was not my favourite one of her books. Reichs had obviously been reading 'the Davinci code' when she wrote this as they find bones which could be Jesus or his family.

The badly decomposed body of an Orthodox Jewish man, Avram Ferris, was found in his warehouse near Mirabel airport. Dr. Brennan is called in on the autopsy because of her expertise with skeletal remains. After her contribution was made to the autopsy she encounters a man in the corridor who hands her a photograph and tells her the skeleton in the photograph is the reason Ferris was killed. She has enough archeological experience to recognize that the photograph shows a skeleton from Israel. Tempe orders carbon 14 dating and DNA testing. The results of the carbon 14 dating prove conclusively that the skeleton is from the first century. The twists and turns are reminiscent of the Da Vinci Code in that if the archeological information is corroborated it would turn modern Christianity on its head. As usual with Reichs' books there is explanation of scientific processes like carbon 14 dating and mitochrodial DNA testing but even non-scientific nerds should enjoy it.
