Macbeth has to be one of my favorite Shakespearean tragedies, if not my FAVORITE. Lady Macbeth is one of the most dynamic and interesting female characters in any of Shakespeare's works, and the weird sisters are certainly memorable as well. I have seen it performed at the Illinois High School Theater Festival, several years ago, and found it to be a very powerful performance. I am partial, however, to the film production starring Judi Dench and Ian McKellan. The "Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow..." soliloquy is one of my favorite Shakespearean quotes, right up there with the Hamlet "To be, or not to be" and Kate's discourse at the end of The Taming of the Shrew.

Macbeth will have a place on my shelf forever.

a true classic - Shakespeare at his best!.. no one can describe the times in the middle ages like he can - the Death of Macbeth is a brilliant play about good and evil - and how you can be destroyed even by the ones you regard as your allied.. read it and enjoy!

I finally "got" Macbeth after substituting for a teacher who was teaching it; watching the film five times in one week and reviewing the study guide. I always had trouble keeping all the Mac-thisses and Mac-thats straight in my head not to mention who killed whom. Since in a tragedy most of the sympathetic characters customarily die it's hard to have the warm fuzzies for it, but, y'know, it's Important.

I absolutely love Shakespeare, but I have to admit that it is difficult to absorb because the majority of us are not used to thinking in terms of early modern english. My high school english teacher was a Shakespeare fanatic and it rubbed off on me. I studied Shakespeare for three years in high school and the passion has been with me since. I would recommend for everyone to look into taking at least one Shakespeare course (credit or noncredit) to help guide the readers through literatures. Learning to understand early modern english is equivalent to learning a new language .. but once you are able to grasp the meanings and concepts .. you will be enlightened!

I"ve read it, seen the movies and listened to the recording on audio cassette. One of the best interpretations of this is "Throne of Blood" by Akira Kurasawa. One of Shakespear's notorious plays because one of the superstitions surrounding it is that you're not suppose to utter this title, for it's bad luck. Pffft! If superstition rules your life, you'll have bad luck, otherwise it's business as usual. What else can I say, except it's a good play to watch. The text rocks too.
Have seen the movie, have read passages, but not read the whole thing.

Now you are talking!! I read this book ages ago and the most enjoyable part of it was about "slumber" when Macbeth went in to kill the king. It is a story of human nature, greed, power-crazy motives that lead to a dead end and an inner death of your soul. It makes the fruits of such actions bitter and not worth pursuing. Although written in old English but a very good read indeed.

Greed and the will to do whatever it takes is a bad combination - makes for a great plot!

She should have died hereafter, there would have been a better time for such a word. Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day, to the last syllable of recorded time. And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life is but a walking shadow. A poor player that struts and frets its hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

As good as Hamlet is, when it comes to my favorite Shakespearean tragedy it will always remain Macbeth. The reason why is because of how it shows how good and brave men can be tempted and slowly nudged into doing terrible acts. Yet, even after being defeated Macbeth is still willing to challenge his fate and fight back. Plus Lady Macbeth is just an awesome character too.

Not a favorite Shakespeare play, but Lady Macbeth, as the unscrupulous, ambitious wife of the domineered Lord Macbeth, is a classic study on how who we end up marrying can affect our abitity to see right from wrong. In the, both of them have to pay for the blood on the hands of Lady Macbeth- one of the most evil heroines in literature.

First time I saw this show I was in high school. Enigma's CROSS OF CHANGES played before it began, it was on a cool night in a park by the beach on a grassy knoll in Jupiter, FL and the actors were top notch. And I got to go to the cast party afterwards on Jupiter Island where I saw my first real Zebra rug. It was a neat house, looked like the'd been all over the world... and they had the coolest & most comfy hammock chairs on their back porch over looking the Jupiter lighthouse. Just want to say thanks to them all, it was amazing.

Pretty good read, but make sure that you have a side by side old english and modern english version. I like reading Shakespeare in old english although sometimes the meanings of words have changed so much from the time period in which Shakespeare wrote that you NEED to read the lines in the contemporary language to get a better feel for what was going on.

As an English teacher, this Shakespeare play is by far my favorite to teach to students. The familial relationships, the thirst, quest and struggle for power, possible insanity... and the unanswered questions as to who or what was the impetus, and could it or should it be stopped? who is in charge? why does the action flow like it does? who is truly responsible, or at fault?... Even if you aren't into Shakespeare, pick up a No Fear version, or Simply Shakespeare with modern translation, just so you can soak up the story. It's worth it.

I enjoyed getting back to some Shakespeare after almost 20 years away. Somehow this and King Lear hadn't been part of my syllabus at school or university.
