I will admit that I read this recently via an audio book. The amazing thing is how many references are made to it that I didn't no came from this play.

"Out, out damned spot!" I always thought it was a reference to a dog when I was a kid! College made me wiser and I could get the Jeopardy question correct. I do love a good tragedy.

In some ways, I like Macbeth more than Hamlet, simply because the madness is real, rather than an act (and who doesn't love the Weird Sisters?). For a BRILLIANT performance, see Ian McKellan's rendition, but read and understand first. Shakespeare is best performed, sure, but it's even better when you know the nuances going in so that you can appreciate the director's choices.

The original tragic, supernatural thriller, Macbeth provides the odd balance of being both full enough of plot twists to keep the reader guessing, but predictable enough that nothing feels really surprising when revealed.

One thing I cannot forget in this novel:over-vaulting aimbition of Macbeth. Who can forget,''All the perfumes of Arabia cannot wash away the smell from my hands''
