So fun to teach in middle school! A most memorable teaching moment was 20 yrs ago, when, as my class was finally ready to begin to read R & J, one of my female 6th graders cried out, "Wait! Please, wait!" She opened her desk, took out a GIANT box of tissue, grabbed one, and gave me the go ahead while dabbing her eyes.

It's simple. 1) This is the go-to bible for understanding forbidden love. And 2) In a truly fair universe, each an every one of us would have Shakespeare write our meeting with our true love: "If I profane with my unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle sin is this, My lips, two blushing pilgrims ready stand to soothe that rough touch with a tender kiss. Good pilgrim! You doth wrong your hand too much ..." Yes, my English students can't believe I have that memorized either ... it's so cool, though.

How can you not be in love with the most defining romance novel ever? Thank you Susan Ireland. The Queen Mab speech was my favorite.... "O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you. She is the fairies' midwife, and she comes In shape no bigger than an agate-stone On the fore-finger of an alderman, Drawn with a team of little atomies..."

This is Shakespeare's best Tragedy! I read it in High School when I was a sophmore. Young Star-crossed lovers Romeo Monteque and Juliet Capulet meet at a ball given by Juliet's Dad, the famous rich capulet, Romeo's family's Worst Loathed Enemy. The two fall in love in secret and make a vow to marry in secret. Romeo ask Father Lawrence to secertly marry them. Father Lawerence ojects at first, but then thinks that perhaps this union would re-unite the two families and marrys them, but can love conquear hate and be a tool of reconcilation?

It's hard to say anything bad about any of Shakespeare's plays, especially as I consider them virtually flawless when it comes to their very design. As far as the plot of this play, as it was lamentable, I could not relate to the characters easily; then again, I have not been raised in Shakespeare's time, so that oh-so-important element of fiction need not apply in strength to his plays, in order for them to hold value.If you haven't had to read this play for school, I recommend reading it on your own.

Very romantic and a lovely read. The only thing is though, is that Romeo and Juliet sort of act like love sick dwits. I mean, the meet and are suddenly in love. If they just didn't act completely on a whim and actually thought about their actions, they probably would of been able to live happily together. Instead of just killing themselves. But this is an amazing story still. :]

I read this in high school, while in an international school. My English teach was--English, which made reading Shakespeare fuller and richer. The story has been told and retold, and will be again in the future because the theme is ageless. Juliet and Romeo, Romeo and Juliet, however you say it, we all know what that means--a perfect match. What we need to learn from it, though, is communication is so vital in any relationship. If they had only talked to each other about what they were going to do!!

I know it is such a clché to like Romeo and Juliet, but i do. I think that I mainly love the story because it doesn 't lie. It is so real, there love is real and understood by everybody throught time. There, we are confront with a story that could be anyone story and where not everybody lives happilly ever after. I don't say that what I like the best is that they die. But that as we can here in a certain movie the best thing in life is to love an be love in return. It is hard to find and harder to keep. I read this book so many times this is the first book I read entirely in English this was just breathtaking

Everyone rolled their eyes when it was time to read Romeo and Juliet in the 8th grade. The language took a bit of getting used to for most, but what we didn't realize at the time was how much this work shaped other romances, was compared to them, and still reigns as the penultimate by which others shine or pale.

i think that it is the perfect love story. it's also a great drama, and the way that she killed herself for the love of her life, and he did the same thing. the families didn't get along so they snook around to see each other. it was just outstanding this is a must read!!!

It is said that stronge treu love have horrible ending... this book is a fact pros that... maybe it tells about the biggest love ever..but its ending was the biggest tragedy too. It is true, power of love only can shake up great spirits, no matter circumstances.

Easier to read than Othello. Ha. Well, what can you say really?! its the classic boy falls in love with girl, boy meets another girl, boy dumps first girl, boy falls in love with the second girl, girl falls in love with boy, boy cannot be with girl, girl thinks up ploy to elope (basically) by taking pretend posion, boy thinks girl is dead, boy kills himself, girl wakes up and see's boy is dead, girl kills herself. Everyone cries and makes up. The end.

The greatest writer in history thats the first thing that pops in my head when william shakespere pops into my head. When I visited the church in stratford last I went to resting place of this most famous of men and as I stood before that block of stone that holds his remains I felt a great sence of wonder and admiration. Romeo and Juliet is but only one of many of his writings that will be timeless tales passed down from generation to generation till the end of time. Even though he is gone his tales will live on forever. <3
