It's a classic, but too heavy and dense as all Shalespeare's.

The most quoted of Shakespeare, and probably the most misquoted. Everything about this play has controversy including the penning of it is under question. I find it amazing how every word seems to have particular meaning in every work of Shakespeare.

Shakespeare is the greatest writer in history and his works is always worthwhile to read. The story tells about a tragedy of Prince Hamlet whose father was murdered by his uncle Claudius, thus steal the throne and married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Revenge is the grand theme as Hamlet struggle with his hesitation to kill his unle as he was told to do by the Ghost. It is an incredible tale written with such a high conspiracy, desire and deep philosophy.

This is the best Shakespeare I have ever read other than the messy and lesser known Titus. The "should I do mes-self in..or not" speech captures depression and anguish so perfectly. When I used to act I was told that I should get Lady MacBeth down-pat for auditions...but secretly I always wanted to wow the people with the overdone and often overacted to be speech...

Great way to read Shakespeare. Read this in conjunction with York Notes - also very helpful. I am getting to the point where I read once in "modern english" to get the plot, then once in Shakespeare's tongue to get the feel of the language - then, if possible, I try to see the show on stage. York notes or a class is great also to get all the historical and literary nuances. I know this sounds like absolute torture to some, but I loved it!

For those that have a doubt Hamlet is about the quest of the self the agony of the delay and the impact of the mind that inhebits and retrieves our action

Shakespeare the son of Stradford upon avon is the most important playwriter in all the world. His works are universal. You know why? cuz he deals with human defects that exist in man as a matter of fact. For example in Othello he discussed the jealousy, in King Lear he discussed the over ambition and in this play HAMLET he discussed the hesitation and madness . Of course you heard of this sentence many times during ur childhood "To Be or not to be that was the question!"

in my opinion if u havent read Hamlet ur missing an important link in understanding human nature. What man/woman is what he feels and why and how at times life puts us in plces and situations where we are completly lost as to where and what the next step shuld be, and how in our failures and weaknesses lies our unniqueness and the quality that makes us human and so fallible and so mysterious.

Absolutely infinite in possibilities and interpretations, Hamlet is probably the greatest work of literature ever written. The plot and characters are timeless, the emotions genuine and eternal and the impact constant. This play has the most accurate observations of human nature and motivation of all Shakespeare's works, except, perhaps, for Othello. Hamlet is my all-time favorite work, though I love so many other pieces, too!

Read this in 9th Grade also, before attending a performance of this play at Stratford, Ontario with a group of my classmates from Beaty Junior High School. Remember sitting with Bill McClain at the theater, staged like in Stratford of old, and enjoying it immensely. Memorized the famous "To be, or not to be" soliloquy. Still remember most of it.

In some sense, this may actually be one Shakespeare's most confusing plays at first glance. I think I hated it the first time around. But in study and discussion, I realized just how genius the writing was and grew to place this play in my Top 3. Madness, mayhem, and murder at its best. With some profound and enduring quotes sprinkled throughout, I found this play to be satisfying on many scholastic levels.

One of Shakespeare's greatest and my favorites. Ophelia is one of the most tragic heroines that Shakespeare created with her eventually going insane because of Hamlet's antics for vengeance.

Hamlet is Shakespeare's most interesting character, and Hamlet his masterpiece. He represents man at his most destructive - Hamlet, through his weakness, which Shkaespeare shows us through his constant indecision, self-absorption, and wavering of purpose, ends up being one of the most damaging of Shakespeare's characters - a true testament to the unintended consequences of human acts which Shakespeare in his play Hamlet so vividly show us.
