If you're a fan on the Tudor dynasty you might enjoy this. Even though I'm NOT a fan of Philippa Gregory, she did a pretty good job with this one. Each chapter is told from the perspective of Mary, Queen of Scots, George, the Earl of Shewsburry, or Bess, the Countess of Shewsburry- the Earl and Countess were the keepers of Mary during her time in captivity until her execution for treason. Mary almost bankrupted the Earl while her became enraptured by her for 17 years in his care. He eventually separated with Bess, who never forgave Elizabeth I or George for the financial stress of this most ungrateful queen.

Different point of view of Mary Queen of Scots. Strange at first with the changing points of view, but it does add to the plot. Fast read, interesting subject...now to read the "real" history...it does make you wonder!

I had to give up on this one. I have loved the other books I have read by Gregory, but this one bored me. I also did not like the first person perspective. Not good at all.

takes a while to get going. some parts it just feels like the characters are repeating themselves. I was like "c'mon already! we get the idea!". all in all a decent story though.

I really was a bit disappointed, after having read "The other Boleyn girl" I expected more and found it quite boring on the whole, drags on quite a bit and didn't particularly like any of the characters.

Didn't find this one quite as addictive as her other books but still, it was very good. Now, of course, want to learn all of the true history about Mary, Queen of Scots. And also want to read more of Gregory's books. Trashy romance disguised as historical fiction -genius!

This was my least favorite novel by Philippa Gregory. Maybe it was the subject matter. I just got tired of Mary Queen of Scots whining. There wasn't enough action in this book.
