I really enjoyed this book. I usually don't read sci fi books, but this book kept my interest until the end. I have not read Frank Herbert's famous Dune and decided to start from the beginning. His son did a great job in taking over the writing. I look forward to reading the entire Dune series.

Fun plot, sometimes cheesy. Worth reading to for historical perspectives of Dune universe.

Also known as the one where I started reading them to see what they'd done to a universe I loved, instead of because I vaguely liked them a little. NO LIKING!!

I went into this with an open mind. Not nearly as complex or enthralling as the original Dune books. Very predictable plot. I know this has to jive with a set history, but there are 10000 years between this book and Dune, history has a way of changing over time. Hell Frank Herbert deliberately changed things over the span of his books.

It was OK, but nothing spectacular and nothing to get me to continue reading the new series of prequel books. I was actually put off by the goriness of it.

A fantastic start to this new trilogy series. The beginning climax to the crusade to end all machines and for the humans to retake the galaxy. It explores all those characters we just heard about in the regular Dune novels from Frank Herbert, and we get to really know them.
I enjoyed this very much. Really great to get to know these characters in the flesh and find out their real motivations, why this crusade and jihad really started.

Thought the book was a little slow and spanned too long of a time

Interesting read as a prequel to the Dune novels but the writing style isn't as enjoyable nor was the story as engrossing.
