Part 2 of the conclusion to the Dune series. Knowledge of Part 1, Hunters of Dune, is absolutely essential. While I enjoyed Part 1, I enjoyed Part 2 a little less. This was because there was some repetition in the prose which became a little irritating, and there were fewer shocks/surprises in store compared to Part 1. This was understandable because Part 1 had to set the scene for the climax in this book. Also, the authors told the story from the perspectives of the various perspectives and this caused some of the shock value of the story line to be lost. Objectively however, this may have been the easier way to tell the story as otherwise there would need to be a lot of explanatory text. The authors have managed to tie all the threads of Frank Herbert's original novels together with the prequels written by the authors in a fitting conclusion to the saga. There's still a lot of scope for novels to be set anyway in between any of the novels in the entire series. Unlike Frank Herbert's novel's, the author's novels have less of a message and theme in them but being more modern they may be more accessible to current day readers.

Just finished reading it and was "Wow!". Finally, a conclusion to the whole stuff and it was great to read the end. It suffers however of the LOTR-syndrome, wrapping up all the characters and stuff. Bit of a decline of thrill at the end, but the rest was well worth it!

The slowly building tension through the book up to the climatic war of wars that i thought was coming fell flat on its face with a deux ex machina and a 'happy ever after' ending. An enjoyable read but not the "awe inspiring grand climax" i thought it would be.

It must be difficult trying to capture someone else's vision from notes and what they have themselves written. As with Anderson and Herbert's prevous exporations of the Dune universe something is missing, its subtle but tangible. Never the less this final part of the Dune saga is a reasonable read and not a bad way to spend several rainy afternoons...

An inadequate ending to the series. Predictable, moralizing and obviously written very quickly. Does not provide the multi-layred and many yeared plot complexities that Dune brought to the Science Fiction realm. Reads more like the pulps of the fiftties than the harbingers of moral and environmental doom like its ancestor (Dune) or its siblings (Stranger in a Strange Land).
Rushed, limp, simple. In comparison with the original three books Sandworms just can't hold a candle and its weak even in comparison to most of the rest of the series penned by Brian Herbert. Heck even Hunters was more genuinely complex.Disappointed.
Simple, limp, lacking.Just wasn't enough; no lessoons, no tension, disappointing "surprises" and played too much like an attempt to write a simple version of Dune.Snadworms needs re-writing.
