Definitely not quite as good as the first but still good. The development of the characters is pretty easy and holds true along through it all. There was one thing I didn't quite get but I won't mention it since it might be a spoiler.

I like the first one because it was loosely based on love, a good bit with siblings.. this one was more about love than I had anticipated, I almost wish it had more than that.

Flawless triology. And the information of Celtic folk legends actually assisted me in my 17th literature class.

I love the trilogy of Sevenwaters (well, now there is a fourth, 'The Heir of Sevenwaters') but Son of the Shadows is my favourite of the original three. Beautifully written, deep in lore and fantastic love story.

The 2nd book in this series, this book was my absolute favorite. It built on the foundation set in the first book, completely different character and journey. I would read absolutely anything Juliet Marillier writes - she is incredibly talented.

This is my favourite book of the Sevenwaters Trilogy! Juliet Marillier has become one of my favourite writers; she (for me) is the same league as Judith Tarr, Morgan Llwelyn, Marion Zimmer Bradley...and of course JK Rowlings. This novel evokes all kinds of passion: tears, laughter, anger, impatience, intolerance, sweetness, love, frustration...and many more. As written by others "a captivating historical fantasy".Don't pass it up (nor this author)

I'm not sure yet if it's a testimony to my bad luck or our understocked libraries but I always seem to find myself starting off a series with the second book which can be quite frustrating because the first one is now essentially ruined. This book was no exception. I don't regret it though because this book was a fantastic read. You can't help but fall in love with both Bran and Liadan and then subsequently fall in love with the love the two of them share. Juliet Marillier knows how to weave a story around you and completely rope you in without you ever realizing it or maybe you do realize it but you're enjoying it so much you just want to continue. Either way it's an awesome experience. This is one of those books you wish you've never read so you can read it again for the first time. I absolutely LOVE it and you're missing out if you haven't read it!

Beautifully written; the author is very descriptive and draws you into the book. The plot is well thought out and the characters are very 3-D. I loved the baby in here especially. The magic in the book has a very definite sense of reality. It's as if you are reading a historical fiction.

I own/read this in the Portuguese 'O Filho das Sombras' (Son of the Shadows).
I liked 'A Filha da Floresta' (Daugther of the Forest), more for the fact that there were more fantastic events, but this one is a nice little segue into what I hope is a big conclusion to the Sevenwaters Trilogy.

This book was definitely a good sequel to Daughter of the Forest, and I liked the fact that it was a different story, that just tied in different parts of Sorcha's journey.

I am going to have to place my vote of likeness on the previous novel, despite it being so unique. Despite the different storyline, it was very much the same 'forbidden love' theme that occured in the first book.

This is sure to be placed highly on my top 10 list, and a MUST read for any young adult who enjoys fiction.

Amazing trilogy, this book was wonderful in it's own way, and glad it wasn't too much like the first, but kept within the time line of everything, interconnected.

I loved the first book in this trilogy called Daughter of the Forest, which is based on the Irish fairy tale of the Swans. I think this will be an excellent book.

Second book in the Sevenwaters trilogy.

Sorcha and Hugh now have grown children of their own. Liadan is much like her mother, a healer who sees visions of the future. She looks forward to a peaceful, orderly life at Sevenwaters, but circumstances put her on a different and much more dangerous path. While on her way home from a neighboring village, Liadan is captured by a vicious band of mercenaries led by the Painted Man and taken to their camp to care for a fatally wounded man. An ancient prophecy, as well as her own feelings, ties Liadan to the Painted man and leads her discover a new path. Laiden must make many difficult choices and is forced to make a choice that may save Sevenwaters or destroy it forever.

Beautifully written mix of fantasy, historical fiction, and romance.
