Brandon Sanderson proves once again that he is the MASTER of the Fantasy novel. This book brings EVERYTHING together in the most masterfull way possible. I cannot describe how amazing this series is, and The Hero of Ages is a fitting end to an amazing story.

I am amazed how Sanderson tied this whole series together. After the first book, I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue the series, but by the second, I felt as though I was returning to old friends. This book was non-stop action and really kept me craving more.

Easily the best trilogy wrap up book I've read in a decade. Sanderson keeps you tracking, giving you hints, thinking you've figured it out before he hits you again with something new and darkly twisted. I enjoyed this so much that I'm trying to locate a hard-cover copy now, because I think it's going to get that much use. For anybody that wants to try their hand at epic fantasy, ever, this is one of the trilogies to read, it's got the best of everything in it. Just know that we probably won't be able to do it as well as he does.

While the ending was definitely not what I expected or wanted, this book ended the series on best note possible.
The entire series is worth a read, and even a reread.

The first two books in this series were great, so I had high hopes for the conclusion. I must say that this didn't just exceed my expectations, it blew them out of the water! Seriously, they can't even SEE the water anymore.

Amazing, amazing story. It was so well crafted from start to finish, and the finale was a hell of a thing. One of the best and most original books I've ever read. Ever.

Beautiful End book of the series. Sanderson really out did himself on the three book series as a whole. Nice and surprising twist at the end that brought it all together. It didn't end in a typical way which I like! The whole thing was orchestrated with purpose and mystery that all came together in this final book. The series is a MUST

Sanderson really has turned into a top-notch writer. His ability to make unique worlds and magic systems is unparalleled for its originality. Very good climax to a great trilogy. His books don't have their ups and downs its enticing all the way through.

This book proves Sanderson's mastery of the craft. He weaves together every single thread that has poked up in the first two books in a satisfying and believable way. It was fascinating how it read so much more like a mystery book than an epic quest; I say this in a good way, though. I wanted to understand the secrets that he flaunted..., tossing me crumbs one at a time. He drops hints and foreshadowing and just the right pace that the astute reader will guess many main secrets before they are revealed, leaving a smug satisfied feeling of victory when you read the final proof that your guesses were right. And even still, there were some tangled bits I couldn't figure out on the way, but became obvious after the fact. A++ and all that jazz, a delight of a story. Way better than the first two, which were solid in their own right.

The closing chapter of the Mistborn trilogy. After having read Sanderson's debut novel Elantris, I was excited to see where this was all leading. He does a fantastic job of world building, getting into the details of life to a meticulous level (religion, economy, politics) without being dull. He has a flair for writing fight scenes and keeping the action taut and suspenseful.

He also has a penchant for using the phrase "raised an eyebrow". I swear to God, if you made a drinking game out of spotting cocked eyebrows in this book, you'd be David Crosby before you got to the final page. I used Amazon's "search inside" feature on the phrase "raised an eyebrow" or "eyebrow" and it returned close to fifty hits. That equates to someone doing an impression of the Rock about once every ten pages. It GLARES.

Eyebrows aside, the trilogy follows a fascinating arc. Rather than telling a tale about how a band of heroes saved the world from destruction, it's more about how those attempts failed and what needs to be done to fix them. There are a wide array of characters and species to follow, some fascinating, others feeling a bit like plot devices or a bit two dimensional. I would recommend the Mistborn Trilogy for anyone who really likes epic fantasy (I'm only a passing fan, and it's the twist Sanderson puts on things that kept me coming back), but I would still steer people towards Elantris above this collection.

The concluding book of the Hero of Ages Trilogy carries on Sanderson's high standard of writing, not only has he avoided the cliches that plague a lot of modern fantasy writing but he comes out with some of the cleverist plot twists I have ever seen and which he had prepared the reader for back with the first book. I look foward to reading more of Sanderson's work in the future.

The Mistborn trilogy is the most exciting series I've read in quite awhile. It's certainly not perfect-- the characters, for instance, are rather unexceptional-- but the worldbuilding is more than good enough to make up for it. The world starts out interesting, and over the course of the trilogy it gets deeper and deeper. Just when you think you understand what's going on, you discover that there's much more to it than that. The whole trilogy is meticulously well-planned. Also, best magic system I've seen in a long time.

 It all came together.

There was a purposeful method to how the story was constructed, to how things were explained, to how details left in plain sight were easy to dismiss and how significant they actually were. The architecture behind the plot twists was the fantastic type, the ones that make you sit up straight from surprise or delight. It was an amazing feeling to see it unfold and it was easy to see how these clever characters could be convincingly deceived or how insurmountable odds are not so insurmountable by paying attention to the resources available. It’s a wonderful fun sort of cleverness that keeps one guessing.

Vin and Elend are the types that think a lot about their actions but without letting it paralyze them into inaction. They’re good but near-uncompromisingly determined people in the sort of way in which one enemy suggests to Vin that they figured she wouldn’t kill Ska hostages and Vin thinks “He’s wrong. I would’ve killed the hostages if I thought it would give me a chance to escape.” They’re determined because the world is falling apart and it feels that their attitude is the right one to take with those kind of stakes.

How it all comes together is just startlingly impressive.

I think this was the weakest book of the three. It felt at times both rushed and too slow. The interchapter descriptions became longer and longer as Sanderson revealed more and more of how his world worked that was not apparent from the actions in the text. Usually not a problem, but it is an oversight on his part to have to essentially do a voiceover for the last 300 pages to explain how the story came about and ends. Otherwise the characters were well written and the plot engrossing, if at times a bit slow.

After thinking it couldn't get any better than the first two books in the series, I found myself captivated by the third and final. The last few chapters had me exclaiming out loud as everything (and boy, do I mean everything) came together and all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. The ending was not all what I expected - which is amazing by my standards since I can usually guess. Even though main characters die at the end, I can honestly say that the closure was so perfectly handled that I walked away satisfied and ready to read the whole series again. I imagine the story can only be richer for knowing how important some of the seemingly small details really are.

Truely amazing book. Quick read for me kept me entranced to the last page. However I have figured out Brandon Sanderson's writing style and he really hasn't been able to suprise me with really anything.

Sanderson's Mistborn series is fantastic as a whole. Forceful characters are balanced by a logically explained setting. His heroes and heroines feel like real people, with doubts and limitations. His magic system is thoroughly defined and cleverly entwined with the plot. His world resembles ours, but with physical and cosmic explanations for why and how it is different. These details make you feel as if the world and its inhabitants are real.

Finally, a perfection of planning is tempered by Sanderson's ability to keep the reader guessing. Sanderson reveals so much, but at his own pace and in such a way that most readers will find at least one surprise towards the end. The twist at the end of the second book will make your heart jump and the conclusion of the trilogy will make you say "I should have known!" multiple times. Then, to top it off, Sanderson leaves a loose end, and is brazen enough to point it out on the last page! Thus the trilogy has a sense of finality, yet there is definitely room for more books in the universe, should Sanderson ever decide to pick it up again. Yet how he could make another series in the same universe quite as epic, I can't imagine.

In summary, this is the best high fantasy series I have read in a long time. It's only three books long. You don't have an excuse NOT to read it.

These comments pretty apply to the entire trilogy. Everything he had to say was repeated at least half a dozen times. The writing was often uninspired. It takes him a good long time to get up a head of steam and really get things going. But, big but, when he does get going he tells a ripping good yarn.

Sanderson is very good at letting you think you've finally figured out what's to happen. But then he kicks your feet out from underneath you. His legends and systems of magic are so beautifully constructed. I was almost in tears when I realized I had come to the end of the trilogy. Now on to Warbreaker. :)
