Apart from "Notes From A Big Country" this was the other Bryson book I really enjoyed. An interesting insight to the wildlife, nature and problems associated with walking the Appalachian Trail.

Didn't prepare me for the part of the AT I hiked a few years ago but is a great book. Great writer.

I ordinarily would not read a book on such a topic, but I was out of reading material and found it in a stack of old yard sale finds. Much to my surprise, I was fascinated from the first page & read the entire book at one sitting. One imagines only certain things that could happen on such a trek--wrong! The adventures and people he met make for a book which is hard to put down until the end. Fun & informative.

Enjoyed the entire hike! He is a funny writer and added quite a few facts and history into this story. I now know what's like to be an amateur hiker. I recommend this book to anyone who's thinking of hiking and I highly recommend the author...love how tells a story!!
