Humorous observations about America abound when Bill Bryson, a native born American humorist returns after spending the last 20 years in England. This collection of newspaper columns focuses on the little thing, like diners, motels, TV, dieting, consumerism, hypocrisy, the legal system, politics, culture, preparing tax returns, how to assemble a computer. The columns were interesting if for no other reason than because they were written for a British audience. I appreciate his writing in general. I love the smiley face binoculars on the cover.

As usual Bill made me cackle many times. I feel like I am not his target demographic - meaning I feel like it is aimed square at my mom but, it makes me laugh nonetheless.

With his usually high levels of wit and self immolation, Bill Bryson does a good job of pointing out some of the idiosyncrasies that exist in our society. His place as both an American and an outsider give his observations an extra poignancy, and each of the short, well researched essays is hilarious and thought provoking.

Vintage Bryson! Explores the bizarre every-day conventions of American culture from an "outsider's" perspective.

Iowa born Bryson comes back home to live in New Hampshire after spending the last 20 years living overseas. His take on the changes that have taken place are very amusing.
