The beginning is quite funny, but towards the end you get the feeling that Bryson lost interest in the whole thing, probably wanting to turn to his other projects as soon as possible. Not his best book ever. I'd like to read more of him on Africa - but maybe it would be quite difficult for him to be funny without appearing racist. That certainly was also a difficulty he was facing for this work.

Too short to get a rating. When Bill goes back (on a bigger plane) and writes about Africa again, I will love it. He has to write about Africa, there's not much else left, and he's certainly not done writing.

Although this book was short it was still a good read. Funny and Real, Bill Bryson not only paints a picture with words, he opens up the world so we can all experience it

A lovely lightweight look at Africa, nothing too deep here. You could read this in one afternoon lying on the beach....
