This is a hilarious book, he somehow is able to make life in the 50's, sad, funny, ironic. Fun author, want to read more of his books for certain.

Another hilarious book from Bill Bryson. This memoir recounts his experiences growing up in Iowa in the 1950s. It's packed with ridiculous antics and characters (like Lumpy Kowalski, who poops himself on a daily basis). But aside from Bryson's childhood memories, it's also a history of the Golden Age of America. An excellent, funny, and surprisingly informational read (as is all Bryson's work).

This author was nine years old in 1960. His report on childhood in the fities was fiction. It also mixed fact with gross exaggeration. It did not make me laugh as I had hoped it would.

He always makes me laugh out loud. I enjoyed the stories and made my husband look at me funny a few times.

Bryson's books are always funny, and this book is no exception. It is wonderfully well-written and full of gems of sentences. On top of everything else, it is a very compelling and persuasive pitch for a decade not many people are interested in buying.

Loved it! He wrote exactly as a child of the 50's would experience life, with a few adult topics thrown in. I remembered the exagerated explanations of a kid and the world was at the time. I loved reliving the simpler time right along with him.

Read aloud funny! Found myself wanting to call up my siblings and share parts of this book with them. At times it felt like he had taken a page right out of our family script! This was a very entertaining book, especially if you are a boomer baby!
