I enjoyed the book but it is such a sad, sad, story! It made me entirely thankful for not having messed up parents.

Book deals with incest, domestic abuse, sexual identity. I loved the characters of Otoh and Tyler. I loved the dialect.

Finished it last night and want to start it again, so rich and beautiful (heartbreaking too), the writing makes you re-read paragraphs and savour the language.

Socking!!! One more story who proves how preconceptions can destroy people. Also proves that often, childrenn are the only victims.

I loved this book!! It is tragic, spell binding, horrific and you can't put it down. The reader must finish the book to find out what happens to the protaganist. Shani Mootoo is a fabulour writer. Read her other book 'He Drown She in the Sea'. Also captivating. Whenever a friend is travelling and wants a recommendation, Cereus is one of the first titles out of my mouth. I read this book for Post Colonial Carib Lit at York U. I will never forget this book. It is disturbing but you can't put it down til you find out what happens. Well written
