What a courageous girl. She was beautiful inside and out. Hopefully this book will help others who are so lost and feel violence is necessary.

This book was written by Beth Nimmo and Darell Scott, the parents of Rachel Scott, one of the teenagers shot dead by Thomas Harris and Dylan Klebold in the Columbine High School massacre in April of1999.

From the home made videos the two teenage killers left behind, it was learned that they had targeted Rachel Scott and other Christians at Columbine High School. Rachel Scott, and others like Cassie Bernall, had died for their faith.

Rachel’s Tears uses excerpts from Rachel Scott’s own journals, as her parents offer a spiritual perspective on a tragedy that affected many, not just in America, but around the world.

This book reveals Rachel a girl who, even though she had times of struggle and of doubt, loved God, was determined to be obedient to God, and live out her faith in a way that touched other people.

I can’t admit that many books I have read have ever moved me to the point of crying, but this book did. It made me think of questions I am still grappling with about pain and suffering in our world.

Why did someone like Rachel Scott die? Yet, I am aware that around the world, Christians continue to be imprisoned, tortured and killed for no other reason except that they are Christians. This in no way lessens the tragedy of what happened at Columbine High School.

That Rachel’s parents have found purpose in the murder of their daughter holds lessons all could learn from, especially as youth violence continues to be an issue around the world.

The forgiving attitude that Rachel’s parents, had towards those who had taken their daughter from them is challenging considering they have every right to remain bitter about what happened.

Though in reviews, one is supposed to be objective, a book about a tragedy such as the Columbine HIgh School massacre allows some leeway for one being allowed to emote.

This is a truly touching and inspirational story.
