Great read. If you strive to put God's desires above your own desires, you should read this book. Elizabeth Elliot's writing makes you feel like your talking to a friend.

I heard someone say recently that a real's man defends and protects a woman's virtue and does not seek to conquer it. This book, written in the fifties but still relevant for today, is a peek into the love letters and diaries of two college sweethearts separated by distance and circumstances. It's a great read for singles who would like to find the great love of their lives, and for those in relationships who ask the question "Is God really all I need?" Elisabeth Elliot tells the inspiring true story of her romance with Jim Elliot, her future husband, who was brutally murdered just three years after their marriage by the savage jungle tribe they were seeking to reach for Christ. I thoroughly enjoyed it, finding it romantic and challenging.

I borrowed this book from our military base chapel, but this might be one I will have to go ahead and purchase for our home library. It would be most useful to a single person, but it still applies to even those who are married. It helps encourage restraint not only in regards to sex, but also within the emotional workings of a relationship. Emphasis is placed on traditional roles such as men initating like men, and women responding properly like women. The central theme that over-rides this entire book is letting your actions honor God through even, or especially, your love life.

Incredible book! I wish hearts like Elisabeth Elliots, so entirely belonging to Christ, weren't so rare.

I love this book. I read it at a critical time. I had a girlfriend going through serious man issues. I was also liking a guy who was playing around with my feelings. I was very confused about Christian relationships because of the contradicting advice going around. This book cleared all my confusion. I now know my romantic relationships were God's idea and they can be blessed by Him. But God wants us to give up everything, including the right to live happily ever after for him. Will we put our deepest desire on the alter for Him?

There's some great things in this book, but i felt like it was more geared to women. Eliot says it herself in the book that Jim would not recommend himself as a good example for guys to follow. granted, I did read this when i was 17, so maybe i was just a little dull...

Great read. I love Elisabeth Elliot's writing style and her mixing of hymns, scripture, story, and commentary. I'd recommend this to anyone, especially to young Christian women not yet married. Even men might find it useful...
