This is a compiliation of C.S. Lewis essays and letters on a variety of theological and ethical topics. I particularly enjoyed Lewis' brilliant wit and analysis of the dichotomy between ecclesiastical and private practices in family life, as well as his brilliant critiques of liberal theology.

What can I say? C.S. Lewis never disappoints. What I could do if I only had half his mind!

I love this man! Wish I could've sat in one of his classes. This book actually includes lots of different articles and transcripts from speaking engagements of Lewis -- all dealing with issues unbelievers typically have with the concepts of God and Christianity.

"Simple, articulate, scholarly." Itu kata Billy Graham buat buku "Know What You Believe, Know Why You Believe" karya Paul Little. Tapi menurutku, komentar itu lebih tepat buat God In The Doc karya CS Lewis. Sangat praktis, dinamis, dan masih relevan walopun uda lebih dari 40 tahun berlalu.

This book is an excellent compilation of essays as well as live speeches that C.S. Lewis gave over the years. It was compiled by one of his friends in the early 70’s a few years after Lewis’ death. It’s a must for anyone who is a fan of Lewis. Additionally, you can see the roots of some of his longer works. If you don’t have the time to read a full-length book like Miracles, you may enjoy reading his essay he wrote that covers the high points of his arguments against a naturalist worldview.

explains more of his perception of the Faith, since I think the Narnia books aren't directly religious

Anything by Lewis is worth reading, but I really enjoyed God in the Dock because it is a collection of his works on a variety of significant topics. You can read each chapter individually without reading the previous chapters, so it is something that you can read spread out over a long period of time. His words challenged me and made me think critically about Christianity, which renewed my mind and strenthened my faith. In conclusion, read it.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I at times found it hard to plow through, as it is highly intellectual. Yet - I was often deeply spiritually encouraged by his observations and reflections. I especially enjoyed the chapters on the 'sunbeam' from his 'reflections in the tool shed,' his thoughts on 'bulverism,' and his insights into the debate on men/women in the priesthood.

Intro to C.S. Lewis reviews.Evangelicals have more and more come to grips with the fact that 1) Lewis was not the clearest theologian (his views on other religions are an example), 2) His view of scripture is wanting (he relies too much on 'the experts'). Still, for what he is good at (Apologetics, literary criticism), he is without peer. Now, to this book. This is a collection of essays and lectures. Many of them are concerned with how to communicate the gospel. Several others are responses to specific objections to Christianity. Lewis' engagement with the community of science is especially helpful. There is also an interesting essay "Priestesses in the Church" which addresses the issue of women's ordination in an insightful and different way. This essay stands outside the normal ways this debate is usually carried on; Lewis, especially as a literary man, has something important to say on this.

He has been so helpful to me in gaining understanding. His mind works so similar to mine (although good grief his is way superior). Great insight. A must read for Christians. Great for helping unbelievers understand scripture. Great for helping with hard core atheists and theists alike.

A classic and simply among the best of the best of Lewis serious works on theology and what the intellectual concept of true faith means ....

not unwilling to question the most difficult aspects of most concept of either belief or unbelief...his writings make a case for the nature of God, in a modern academic manner that few have before or since, been able to match...

its also a beautifully rich book full of ideas for why, 'in the market place of monotheism, christianity speaks to the truth of all reality....'

its a must read, for the serious thinking modern person and for anyone, who cares deeply about the subject of God and nature....

Everyone MUST read "Meditation in a toolshed," "Horrible Red things," and, of course, "God in the Dock."These essays show why Lewis is the most popularly quoted Christian since the Apostle Paul
