Never a beautiful writer, but he sums up modern thought better than most any other author. His short stories are better because he is an idea man not a character stylist.

Sometimes it is difficult to believe that all of these stories were written in 1952-1955. Philip K. Dick was truly a visionary, often decades ahead of his time.

second variety is the short story on wihch 'screamers' with peter weller was based. One of the best movie adaptations of all time!!!

Easily one of the greatest sci-fi writers, his novels occassionally miss the mark for me; but his short stories are incredible.

Second Variety is one of Dick's best short stories. Read that at least. Read for the story Second Variety. The short story is where Dick really excels.

Without Dick the world would not be as we know it. Unsung in his own time, in debt and assisted by his belief in angels Dick wrought a dystopian canon that blasted a hole in the tired maxims of science fiction.
