Blaaaaahhhhh!!! I was disappointed with this one, though of course, I love the story and the characters. Not much happened, and though it was hard to put down, it was more because I was hoping to get to a part of the story that would have some action or plot revelation. It basically continues the brilliant series, but is definitely not my favorite. A must read though, because the next book is great!

Reading through the 'Wheel of Time' can be a tedious process but it's like an addiction: Even if it no longer gives you a thrill, you still have to do it ...

Jordan did great up to this point - Book 8 begins the sad decline of the story by Jordan's constant need to focus on girl drama and politics.

I don't know if there's really any point to reviewing the later installments of the Wheel of Time series. By the time you've reached this book, you've either made my peace with Jordan's writing style, or you're an idiot for thinking he'll change it. I've made my peace with it, by listening to the series on audiobook rather than reading it. To each their own, but its made all the difference in the world for me. I listen to the story daily on my commute or while shoveling the walk, and it's a bit like watching a TV series, which is what I liken WOT to anyhow. Each book is like a season, and I found myself captivated by most of the episodes in this 'season' in the epic series. I missed Mat, but I think keeping his fate a secret heightened suspense. The pacing was excellent - a good mix of action pieces and character development. You can really tell when Jordan's reached an action moment. The detailed descriptions disappear and events unfold rapidly. A worthy addition to the series.

After I finished this book, I decided that this once-great series was no longer worth reading. Once you strip away all the overwrought and tedious detail of dresses slashed with alternating colors and the exact inflection of people whining, all that's left is maybe 100 pages worth of incomplete plot. This probably could have been combined with the previous two books, trimmed down and cleaned up, and turned into one solid novel instead of three pieces of tripe.

I thought it was a decent book until I got to Winter's Heart. The major problem of this book is that everything that is accomplished in this book in the main plot is undone before the end of the book. There's even a part in the book in which the Aes Sedai army ports to the plains outside Tar Valon only to find themselves not there in the next book! Oh and Mat does not appear in this book. So if you read book 7 and its Mat cliffhanger...yeah.

I finally am getting a little overwhelmed. Still my favorite series but can be challenging to follow. Jordan has created more than a world but thousands of years of history. It is worth all the work to keep up.

Not bad at all, though I was hoping for something more dramatic for the Seanchan, at the least they should have all been turned into mindless minions

Loved the whole series. For a long time every time a new one came out, I went back and started at book 1 again and read all the way up to the newest release. Excellent series....long but excellent.

I was dying to find out what happened to Mat but he was hardly mentioned. Robert Jordan was such a tease.
