This is one of the few books that I plan to read at least once per year. The cover cites Psalms 42:1 "As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, God." Though it is a relatively short book, I found it completely impossible to read it through quickly. I wanted to meditate and pray over each chapter. The prayers at the end of each chapter are worth the price of the book and so much more. Tozer had a unique ability to write heavy sentences without being wordy. It is as if every word has been carefully selected. My heart has been deeply stirred and I have been drawn to a greater intimacy with God each time I have read this book. Church life can become so busy, and we can find ourselves measuring our spirituality based upon our hours invested in ministry. But do we take time to get alone with, to worship, to bask in the presence of the One who gives us life and breath, and who gave His own life so that we might live forever? This book makes me long for Jesus.
