This book is so good! Some people might not like the ending because it's kind of cynical, but I really enjoyed it. It's exactly the sort of thing I like writing about. Rice is also really good at developing a certain feeling; she really draws you into the characters and allows you to really feel what they are going through.

The begining was a hard read but I found once Claudia came into the picture things started to roll and edventually I couldn't put the book down. Louis shows that life is something to tresure and people should live each day to the fullest, which he learned himself after he was dead. Ironic or oximoron? My heart went out to Lestat, even though persumed to be the villian theres clearly more to him... need to read the secound book.

It's genius how Rice uses vampires to help people look more closely at themselves as this is what Interview with the Vampire seems to do. Though it does involve vampires, the search for humanity and human emotion is consistant and really makes you take a step back and look deeper in yourself as well as those around you. The best of the Vampire Chrocinle books!

A must for any vampire fan, with bits of real joy and humour. However, the writing style gets too pompus for my style after a while. By the way, I like the fact that Louis DOES east humans - even though the movie was good in other respects.

It took me a really long time to get into this book and I thought that, despite my interest in vampires, I wouldn't continue in the series. However, Louis' relationship with Armand really drew me in and I'm very excited to read what will happen next. Definitely a good book, but I'm not sure I would like the movie. Tom Cruise? I don't think so.

This is one of the best books I have ever read it's a great mix of past and prescent which Anne Rice easily writes about not just in this book but all the other vampire chronicles, she really does her homework about the time in which the book is set. As you read you feel for each character in my case Louis and the torment that he feels and poor claudia forever doomed to be a little girl forever. It's beautifily written for me it's like poetry I just couldn't put it down.

She has the best character and vampire development. Even if you still have questions they will eventually be answered. I think she challenges her readers to have questions. She, by far, has one of the greatest minds of our time. WONDERFUL SERIES!!!

I can't even remember how many times i have re read this book err but its alot the first Anne Rice book i read and has made me go on to read everything she's written since one of my fav books EVER. This is the first vampire novel when we first meet Lestat and Louis, the characters trully come to live and the attention to detail in all aspects of this book make it a modern classic.

Poor Louis. You really do feel sorry for him..but I can't stand his description of Lestat. Lestat...I just love him so much taht, though I realize Louis thinks differently and taht's why LEstat seems soo evil (yes, ironic) to him, but he could at least get the facts right...This is really a great book. One of the BEST vampire novels ever written, making Anne Rice seem like the only author capalbe of writing good vampire lore. And the movie was also fantastic, though I can't say the same for Queen of the Damned...*shudder* BAD MOVIE.

I loved this book fiercely when I read it. It's so angsty and melodramatic and beautiful really. Anne Rice goes into so much detail about surroundings and mythologies and feelings that it's hard not to feel as if you know the characters (especially Louis and then Lestat in the second book of the series) as intimately as your best friends. It may be a little too melodramatic and almost self-pitying for some, but it's a classic Vampire novel.

This was the first Vampire Chronicles book I read. From the first page I couldn't put it down. I liked Lestat from the very beginning; there is definitely more to Lestat than Louis lets on. Louis struck me as a dreamer, yet kind of a complainer. He seemed very 'poor pitiful me.' Claudia was absolutely amazing. She was the epitome of the perfect vampire, yet she wanted to grow up and be a woman, showing that she, too, desired humanity as much as Louis.

personally i found Rice's writing style irksome. that being said she does expertly create a world and characters that you swiftly become vested in; you soon care what happens to them, and this causes you to flip the pages speedily in your need to know. while i found that her style was a little distractionary, the themes shine through, and perhaps surprisingly for some this book is about the search for humanity, for emotional connectivity. Never thought i would say it, but i actually prefer the film to the original novel, but it is certainly due to a personal preference over writing style more than anything else. this is still a staple read for any fan of the vampire genre, but i certainly would not say it should be limited to such a fan base. a classic tale indeed.

I read this for the first time in 1991 and it completly changed my life. I used to be so scared of dying but reading this book actually gave some kind of hope and I used to have it under my pillow. I didn't go anywhere without it and I must have 4 or 5 copies of it.

It's been a few years since I read it last now, and I don't bring it with me anymore, but this will still be a very special book to me.
