I was surprised how closely the movie follows the original novel, the novel itself being incredibly detailed and nuanced. The world view is dark and sordid, with our super heroes being deeply flawed, very human people who possess no ability to alleviate the world's problems with neat solutions nor separate it's forces into black and white categories of good and evil.
