My first entry into Garcia Marquez's literary world seems a little surreal - not exactly a bad thing, just different. My initial impression was that of a telenovela akin to popular Filipino and Mexican dramas. The novel had a level of sentimentality and melodrama that can be quite addictive and personal. However, I felt such a voyeur into the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. This could have been embarrasing had they been people I actually knew because it exposes emotions that were raw and real, despite imaginary settings. As a reader, I thought that the character of the heroine (Fermina Daza) was created exceptionally well - you think you know her one minute but then she does something 'out of character' the next. You can sympathise and be annoyed by her in a heartbeat. Quite interesting.

pershkrim i bukur i karaktereve, krahasim i shkelqyer i ndjenjave, simptomeve te dashurise me ato te koleres, pak joreale dashuria si obsesion... por jashtezakonisht i bukur...a beautiful character description.. a lovely comparison about feelings and symptoms about love and cholera, a bit surreal thinking of love as an obsession.. but extraordinarily beautiful!

I found this book very difficult to read overall. I started it three or four times before I finished it because I just couldn't get into the characters and the story. When I finally made the commitment to read it, it still took me over a year to finish it. There were parts that I thought were very beautifully written, but on the whole, I just didn't feel like it was worth so much effort. Would rather see the movie, I think.

This book impressed me by the narrative speech. You get very involved in everyone's life, you are living in that time, you know all the details. But it was too much for me.. I can't understand a love like that. Maybe way back I thought things could be so intense and dramatic, but not now. I recommend this book to those who enjoy reading but are less sarcastic.

Es mi libro favorito lo he leido mas de 13 veces, y la película fue un insulto, te cuentan 1/3 o menos del libro. Hermoso me encanta, una historia super bonita escrita por un grande de la literatura latinoamericana.
