The book explores the use of guerilla marketing tactics. It’s a textbook of modern marketing techniques. Your product has to be perceived as , “off-the-grid” in order to attract Gen Y, because they hate being marketed to.

A really startling look at how, and why, we buy. Those of us who think we are above the murky tactics marketers use to get us to buy (Walker aptly coins the phrase "Murketing" to identify this) are the ones who are driving this trend. Really amazing insights written in a style that makes complex information easily understood.

Worth reading, makes you think, but I can't say it contained any earth shattering new ideas or deep explanations. Still, a well written overview of a concept which spurs thought.

People co-opt brands and make create their own meanings for them and there's not a helluva a lot the brands can do to control it, try as they might. Consumers do it for a variety of reasons and in a lot of ways, which is a huge chunk of the discussion.
So far, more interesting than it sounds.

He never gets to much of a point other than that there are challenges to marketing to the new generation of consumers. Really, it is a book that has a lot of cool ideas for marketing. Not much more.

A far ranging exploration of branding, marketing, and consumer culture. Explains why we, the consumer, value branding and use it to help find our place within our culture. You wish it wasn't true, but he sure makes a good case.
