This book is an easy read, informative and entertaining. Many say it is difficult to understand because the book crosses two stories at once but it completely understandable. One story is a historical, set in the 1800's, about the start of the Mormon religion and polygamy and the second is a fictional story that is set in present day.

Confusing at first with so many story lines going on at the same time. By the time I got to the end of the book, I couldn't put it down. Hard to tell what is fiction and what is history. I just assume it is mostly fiction. This is a really well-written, interesting book.

Didn't finish - it didn't move forward & I wasn't driven to finish by the characters. But I didn't dislike it - just sort of dropped for lack of interest.

A little bit to preachy for me! A very subjective approach to the story.

Definitely NOT a book for everyone, this well written book explores the sometimes dark, sometimes secretive world of plural marriage, in the early LDS Church. Part murder mystery, part historical fiction, this book explores polygamy both past and present. Featuring a fictional (although based on actual diaries, writings) account of Brigham Young's "19th" wife, Ann Eliza Young, you learn a lot about the inner workings of a polygamist relationship. One thing is for sure, this book is incredibly well written, although the subject matter is not for everyone.

I didn't have know much about the mysterious world of polygamy or the mormon faith in general. This book helped fill in the blanks. It was a bit difficult to read, as your switching between 2 different stories. But once, used to that, it was a good book!

The audiobook is a well-executed delivery of the interwoven stories of historical figures of the early years of Mormondom with a modern murder mystery. Multiple narrators read the journals of Ann Eliza Young, her father, her brothers, her sons, and prophet Brigham Young, alternating among chapters of the graduate thesis of a BYU student and the story of the son of a murdered polygamist investigating to prove his mother's innocence.

First book I managed to read after Jaan was born - only read it when he was 5 months old!!!

Really enjoyed it, didn't spot the twist in the end, and found the characters interesting and the way the people in the book live was a totally new image for me. Absorbing.

Not exactly particularly intellectually stimulating .... but well written and engaging.
